On Friday, May 15, 2026, the Young Women of Calaba Town Ward 1 and Branch 2 in the Wellington Sierra Leone Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints carried out a humanitarian outreach activity as part of their faith-based service and personal development initiatives.

The activity took place at Zee’s International Bilingual Academy, Calaba Town, where the young women donated various teaching and learning materials to support early childhood education, particularly within the Nursery Department of the school. Items presented included whiteboard markers, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, baby potties/stools, and a carpet for the nursery classroom and playroom.

The initiative primarily benefited nursery pupils and was aimed at improving the learning environment while promoting care, comfort, and educational development among young children.

The outreach also reflected the values and purpose of the Young Women organization within the Church, which focuses on helping young women strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ, develop leadership qualities, render meaningful service, and positively impact their communities.

Recently, the Church announced new Young Women age-group names globally to further emphasize faith, hope, divine identity, and spiritual progression among young women. The new age-groups are now known as “Builders of Faith” for young women aged 12–13, “Messengers of Hope” for those aged 14–15, and “Gatherers of Light” for young women aged 16–18. Church leaders explained that the names are intended to help young women better understand their divine role in God’s work and reflect their spiritual dignity as daughters of God.

Speaking during the donation exercise, Sister Edith Fatmata Bassie of the Calaba Town Young Women organization encouraged the young women to continue exemplifying Christlike love through service to others, noting that such activities help nurture compassion, responsibility, and community involvement among the youth.

The event concluded in an atmosphere of gratitude and joy as school authorities and beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the thoughtful gesture and commitment demonstrated by the young women toward supporting education and child welfare within the community.

Wellington Sierra Leone Stake Conference Emphasizes Following Jesus Christ in Daily Life

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Wellington Sierra Leone Stake gathered on May 2–3, 2026, at the stake center in Wan Pole, Allentown, for their semi-annual stake conference. Held under the theme, “Jesus Is the Way,” the two-day conference featured messages from local leaders and a temple missionary, all centered on strengthening faith in Jesus Christ and applying His teachings in daily life.

Saturday Session

The Saturday morning session focused on building a strong spiritual foundation through personal devotion and faithful living.

President Ndemowoma Y. Mustapha, second counselor in the stake presidency, invited members to commit to daily study of the Book of Mormon as a means of nourishing their testimonies. He emphasized that consistent scripture study deepens faith and strengthens discipleship in Jesus Christ.

Sister Ella Yeama Yanka Kamara, stake self-reliance specialist, taught the importance of spiritual preparedness. She encouraged members to hold a current temple recommend and attend the temple as often as possible, noting that temple worship brings peace, direction, and spiritual strength.

Brother Amid Asin Newton spoke on the significance of Sabbath day observance and the sacrament. In his address, “Always Remember Him by Partaking of the Sacrament and Cherishing Each Sabbath Day,” he reminded members of the importance of renewing covenants and remaining on the covenant path.

Bishop Ansumana Sonnah addressed the principle of repentance, teaching that applying the Atonement of Jesus Christ brings healing, renewal, and spiritual progress.

Concluding the session, President Sammy B. Moses taught principles of wise financial management and administration “in the Lord’s way,” emphasizing self-reliance, integrity, and caring for those in need as disciples of Christ.

Sunday Session

The Sunday session expanded on the theme by focusing on practical ways to follow Christ through self-reliance, prayer, temple worship, and righteous living.

Bishop Jeremy Rahim Kamara taught that self-reliance includes both spiritual and temporal preparedness. He encouraged members to pursue education and vocational skills to better provide for themselves and their families.

Sister Mariama Seray Jumisa, stake Relief Society president, emphasized Christlike love and missionary work, inviting members to love others, share the gospel, and bring others unto Christ.

Sister Hannah Foday highlighted the importance of sincere daily personal and family prayer, teaching that consistent prayer invites divine guidance and protection.

President Ndemowoma Yakuba Mustapha addressed the dangers of drug abuse among youth, urging parents and young single adults to remain vigilant, stay engaged in seminary and institute programs, and actively participate in Church gatherings.

Elder Farr, serving at the construction site of the Freetown Sierra Leone Temple, testified of the importance of temple work, emphasizing the need to receive sacred ordinances such as endowments and sealings for individual and family salvation.

In his concluding remarks, President Sammy Baldwin Moses outlined key steps toward becoming “holy and without blemish,” focusing on faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, and restitution. He invited members to reflect on their lives and make necessary changes in alignment with the Savior’s teachings. He also counseled members to uphold moral standards, strengthen family relationships, and live with integrity as disciples of Christ.

Unified Message

Across both sessions, a consistent message emerged: placing Jesus Christ at the center of personal and family life through daily scripture study, temple worship, Sabbath observance, repentance, prayer, self-reliance, and faithful stewardship. Members were encouraged to not only believe in Christ but to actively follow Him in thought, word, and action.

Wellington Sierra Leone Stake Celebrates 400 Young Single Adults at Skills Training Exhibition, Announces New Cohort for December

The Wellington Sierra Leone Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday, November 29, 2025, hosted its 5th Exhibition and Certification Ceremony, honoring nearly 400 Young Single Adults who completed six months of technical and vocational skills training. The event, presided over by Stake President Sammy Baldwin Moses, took place at the newly completed Stake Center in Allentown and drew a full house of members, invited guests, and community participants.

The ceremony showcased an impressive range of talent across several departments, including tailoring, catering, bead making, cosmetology, decorating, ICT and other practical areas. Young adults proudly displayed garments, bridal pieces, baked products, beadwork, hairstyle demonstrations and digital projects, all reflecting the skills they have developed under the Stake’s youth self-reliance program.

Beyond hands-on training, the students completed twelve weeks of structured discussions on applied self-reliance principles and religious education, creating a blend of professional and spiritual development. President Moses commended their dedication, noting that the program continues to equip young people with skills and values needed for long-term stability and independence.

The event also attracted missionary couples serving at the Freetown Sierra Leone Temple, Elder and Sister Farr, who joined Stake leaders, the YSA Committee and other invited authorities in supporting the participants. Their presence added to the sense of unity and encouragement that defined the ceremony.

A key highlight was the presentation of certificates and awards to the trainees. Joy and pride were evident as students received recognition for their hard work, with both members and nonmembers participating fully in the program. Many visitors expressed admiration for the level of skill and creativity on display, describing the exhibition as inspiring and uplifting.

The Stake announced that the 6th batch of trainees will begin orientation and classes in December this year, signaling the continuation of a growing initiative that is expanding opportunity for youth across the community.

The lively atmosphere, well-coordinated by YSA representatives, underscored the program’s impact. For many of the newly certified youths, the ceremony marks the start of small businesses, apprenticeships or further professional training. For the Stake, it stands as another step in its ongoing commitment to empower, uplift and strengthen the rising generation.
