Christians & Alcohol - What God Says? Is it okay for Christians to drink alcohol in moderation or at all? The Bible provides an abundance of discouragement against the consumption of alcohol.

Prov. 23:29,30: Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

Why should Christians avoid alcohol?

It's Reputation is true to form - Prov. 23:29
a. It forms the appearance of evil - Prov. 20:1
b. It forms the appeal for evil - Prov. 23:31,33

It's Association is true to Deform
a. It Deforms Our Standing before men - Prov.20:1a
b. It Deforms Our Understanding of God - Prov.20:1b

It's Damnation is true to Perform - Isaiah 5:8,15
Obviously, any sensible and discerning Christian will avoid all appearances of evil. This includes any association with alcohol. Knowing that Jesus Christ had no connection with alcohol of any sort should compel all believers to avoid the door k**b (alcohol) of hell and not become a stumbling block to others.

Did Jesus Consume Alcohol?
The water Jesus turned to wine was not fermented wine. Rather, it was pure and natural with a superior taste that even impressed the governor of the feast (John 2:10). The purpose of turning water in to wine was not to get people intoxicated... but to manifest His glory and that His disciples would believe on Him (John 2:11).

The water Jesus turned into wine will be repeated during the millennial reign of Christ on earth. The Bible provides a stern prohibition to the use and/or distribution of alcohol. Therefore, the incarnate Son of God could not have contradicted Hab. 2:15, with his first miracle of turning water into wine (John 2). "Woe unto him that giveth his neighbor drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also...".

Any Christian who justifies their consumption of alcohol must assume a false understanding of God's prohibition to alcohol. Thank God, the Bible is precise on this matter. Don't be fooled by placing your preference over principle. We are to be filled with the Spirit of God... not the intoxicating influence of any sort of this world (Eph. 5:18).

Divorce - Permitted or Prescribed?
While divorce appears to be allowable, it is never prescribed nor encouraged in scripture. And for good reason. The damage alone from divorce is often unending. A Christian who contemplates divorce should be very careful in acting out their desire to dissolve a marriage, fully understanding the life long consequences of such an action.

God used the experience of the prophet Hosea who was married to an habitually unfaithful wife and why divorce would be detrimental for both parties. Even with full knowledge of his wife's infidelity; Hosea waited for his wife to repent... illustrating that God was long-suffering, not willing that any should perish.

The answer to any difficulty that a marriage may be consumed by is found in and by God's Word. Only Christ can truly empathize with the intense emotion that one experiences from the hurt realized by an un-faithful spouse. And as demonstrated in the book of Hosea, the prospect of healing and hope is very real. Healing begins and continues with meditation on God's mercy and forgiveness.

As difficult as it is to reconcile emotionally, physically and spiritually to their spouse; if they purpose to glorify God, they will find grace and hope to reconcile (Heb 4:16). God is able.

Christians and Divorce - What God Says?

Many Christians are continually having marital difficulties serious enough to contemplate divorcing. Among all other sins, divorce is one of the most impacting negative influences on the family, society and within the Church. This is why divorce was never part of God's perfect plan to resolve difficulties within marriages.

From a biblical perspective, divorce is permitted in cases of infidelity but is never prescribed in God's Word under any circumstance. Divorce is permitted because of the hardness of one's heart toward their spouse (Matthew 19:8). One's heart can become so bitter resulting in hardness (void of vitality, stiff,

unbendable, unalterable) that reconciling is nearly impossible due to the cause and reaction to the cause of the marital breakdown.

Marriage - A Biblical Perspective Why are so many marriages, including Christians are falling short?

There is a scriptural explanation why marriages are failing... and to better understand why, we must turn our attention to the Bible. Genesis. 5:2 says, "Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created."

God created male and female with the emphasis of oneness. Notice that God created the female from Adam. There is no incident in the Bible where God created something from another creature other than Adam. This is important to understand in our role as husbands and wives. God created woman for man to remain as one. Note: God called their name: Adam (Genesis. 5:2). God never gave this first woman a name. She did not gain her name until after sin destroyed their lives. Her name was given by Adam, not God. The record bares this out (Genesis. 3:20).

Adam was in need of a help-meet. He could have functioned without her. He was already an accomplished man by virtue of God's creative work. But God saw that it was not good for Adam to be alone (Genesis.2:18). Before the woman was made, Adam was one person. After the woman was made, Adam remained one person with two bodies. It is the neglect of this doctrine of oneness by either ignoring it or ignorance of it that explains why marriages fail.
God's Word - The Authority For Marriage
Scripture says in Genesis 2:24, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh".

It is not hard to understand why a man or woman who is separated by death or divorce finds themselves living with a sense of incompleteness. Why? A part of their being has been stripped from them leaving them vulnerable in life.

Marriage problems always conceive when we assume that we can function independent of our mate. This is rebellion against God that will haunt us for the rest of our lives.

The answer to any difficulty that a marriage may be consumed by is found in God's Word. God emphasizes ONENESS. This fundamental doctrine on marriage is the only suitable challenge against all vain perceptions that destroy the relationship that God intended between man and woman.

The basis of a holy and happy marriage is the glory of God. Ephesians 5:22,33 demonstrates this. If you are going to have the marriage that God designed, You must:

The Husband:
Give your life for and to your wife even as Christ did for the Church (Ephesians. 5:25).

The Wife:
Live your life FOR your husband even as the Church is UNTO Christ (Eph. 5:22,24).

This is the only pattern that must be acknowledged for marriage. Why? Because it is biblical and it is the only form of marriage that is recipient of God's favor and sustains society and ultimately glorifies God.

Christian Women and Jewelry?
The apostle Peter said:
"While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price..."

Peter emphasizes a two-fold concern:
1. What Really Matters - What is important is God's will and glory in and on the inward person.

2. What Real Manners Are - The manner of your outward apparel, attitude, and actions are very revealing of the inward. Are your manners reflecting carnality or the glory of God?

So what is Peter actually saying?
1. Do not allow your outward appearance draw attention to the desires of the flesh. If you are going to where jewelry, makeup, and different sorts of apparel ( which Peter does not prohibit), it should never draw attention to itself or you.

2. Your manner of dress and accessories should not draw attention to sensual implications. This is essential.

3. Avoid wearing anything that sets you apart from others because of its great expense or gross expressions

4. Avoid adornment that makes you look foolish or silly.

5. Determine that you will adorn the inner person with the character of Christ. This is important because it establishes the manner of life that pleases God.

6. Avoid a negligence or sloppy and careless forms of adornment. Not to do so will leave your testimony suspect.

All of the above summarizes Peter's concern. What really matters to you will be reflected in your manners. If you are concerned with bringing glory to God, your manners will be Christ-like. If your concerned with outward appearance for the sake of attention, your manners will foster an appeal for evil.

How Should Christian Women Dress?
First and foremost... women should know that dressing is a form of language that communica tes. The important question is: what is one communicating through their dressing? How you address your inward person will determine how you dress the outward person. Inwardly, a Christian woman desires to be godly or Christ-like (1 Peter 3).

A women should dress in a manner that does not draw attention to herself in a physical sense. This is often difficult for many women due to the fact that many women want to be noticed. A godly women is always concerned with bringing glory to God by virtue of her example and her expression in dressing.

How we dress our bodies must be governed by the Word of God. The Bible frowns upon dressing that brings self-advertisement. Our outward dress implicates what we stress inwardly.

Our dress must reflect the glory of God and not our desire for flattery. We live in a world that fosters seduction and the liberty of vain imagination (Genesis 6:5). Our physical and spiritual dress must reflect the likeness of Jesus Christ if we intend to glorify God. Simply put... don't wear clothing that is seductive and encourages flirtation and lust.

Does The Bible Prohibit Christian Women From Wearing Pants?

Deuteronomy 22:5 is a hallmark passage for many that suggest a prohibition to woman wearing pants. The proper interpretation of this passage is to be taken literally. The clear emphasis of this passage is a prohibition against transvestism which is a clear attempt to attack God's original design of creation of male and female. Transvestism is intimately associated with homos*xuality.

A male or female should not conduct nor conform their life in a manner that is opposite their s*x. This includes clothing. If a woman or man is intentionally clothing themselves to appear as opposite of their s*x and to adorn themselves with the intent to appeal in contrast to God's original design, "they are become an abomination unto the Lord."

How Christian women dress their bodies must be governed by the Word of God. I see no biblical prohibition against Christian women wearing pants. That being said... Christian women should not adorn themselves with clothing styles and mannerisms that are seductive and provocative. However, a godly woman will dress in manner that is feminine without advertising her s*xuality. The emphasis with Deuteronomy 22:5 is that of honoring God's original design of male and female in both belief and behavior.
