Alone in Singapore during the pandemic, cut off from her family, Sister Doris reached a point where she no longer wanted to live.
Then she typed one question into Google: who worships on the Sabbath day?
That search led to a phone number, to a pastor who first thought she was a scammer, and to a church door she walked through not knowing what she would feel. What she felt, she says, was "home sweet home."
Today she's the cook everyone knows — and she quietly pays for much of it out of her own salary. Offered reimbursement, she refuses: "No, that's my sacrifice to the Lord."
