Passed by a new dim sum restaurant along Jalan Besar almost every morning. I nicknamed this place as 3.3 because the Cantonese name sounds like it — 心点心.

Looks interesting and so my wife and I decided to give it a try this evening. It was not as good as I had anticipated. Perhaps the great anticipation to coming here has caused me to expect a little bit too much of this new place. But there are good reasons for me to say it is not as good as anticipated.

Firstly, the Steamed Rice Roll (猪肠粉) with Char Siew was serve only warm. Not hot... not good...! Especially for a steamed items like this. I mean, any decent dim sum restaurant worth its salt will not serve a steamed item warm...! 😡

Secondly, the service staff are really blur like sotong and long-winded. Ask for chilli and they give us OX sauce and insisted it is chilli. Huh...?!?!? Asked for 烧水 and she goes 一点冷的吗?Repeat 我要烧水 and she goes 温的可以吗?🙄

Thirdly, they are very smart. They do not have a menu with photos of the dishes (at least some would be nice but nothing). All they give you is an A3 size order menu. Just tick how many you want and which item. Smart move... creates mystery... lowered expectation... wrong also you don’t know. 😏

However, my wife and I agreed on one thing — they are generally quite generous with their ingredients. Yes, that is true, but not enough to get me to overlook the shortcomings. 😁

So, the real test is this — will we go back again? Hmmm... we would but not really some place high up in our list of makan places. 🤪

You go try... then tell us what you think.

My wife and I used to have breakfast at 大姐 Wanton Noodles before she closed for good. Not longer after that, another wanton noodle stall took over. I guess this is the 'usual' practice of setting up a stall selling similar food hoping others will not notice. This stall is now operated by two guys -- both seem to be around 40 years old or so.

So, is it any good. Well, after some months, my wife and I decided to give it a try this morning. We will never know until we try.

What is the verdict? Well, some people will say that I need to give young people a chance by not saying negative things about their food. But I beg to differ. To me, if it cannot make it, I will say so.

So, yes, this place is not somewhere my wife and I will come back again. It is just okay... decent... but can be much better if they make more effort and improve.

The noodles are decent but not done well. There are clumps of noodles that are semi-cooked and stuck together. Obviously he doesn't stir them well enough to ensure the noodles are cooked al-dente.
The fried wantons are a real let-down. They are not crispy. The oil used is obviously rancid. And the fillings are not fresh. Very poor. Never order this ever again.

The wanton in the soup tasted okay. Decent. Nothing to shout about. Edible.
So, I guess it will be very difficult to get me and my wife back here again. You go and try and see if you agree.

This stall is 福记 Wanton Noodles.
