SYNOPSIS
Jesus described himself as the “Light of the World” in Chapters 8 and 9. The idea of light is often used in the Scripture as a symbol of spiritual knowledge. It is with this new spiritual knowledge that those who believe in Jesus receive the “light of life” (John 8:12), or salvation in Christ, and are healed of spiritual blindness. Because of the Father’s love for mankind, He gave us His Son to bring salvation to all those who believe in Him (John 3:16).
Now that we know what Jesus came for, we want to look at another interesting development in the story. Jesus approached the man again after he had received healing. Jesus asked him, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” (John 9:35). The man openly admitted that he wanted to believe, but did not know who he should turn to. When our Lord identified Himself as the Son of Man, the man responded with faith, “Lord, I believe” (John 9:38). The man’s lack of knowledge of the Saviour was echoed by St. Paul, “but how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? (Rom 10:14).
REFLECTION
Do you believe in Jesus Christ? Share in your group some ways you may be struggling to believe in Jesus Christ.
(We will respect that every one of us has personal struggles with the issue of faith. We must not judge, instead, we should encourage one another.)
REFLECTION
Are you making good use of your time on earth to be witnesses for Christ? What are some difficulties you face in sharing the gospel with others? Discuss how you can increase personal witness in your daily routine.
REFLECTION
We are about six months away from Christmas. As a cell group, begin to pray and plan how you would like to reach out to your pre-believing friends this Christmas.
