CHAPTER TWO: WHERE CAN WE HEAR FROM GOD?

HEARING FROM GOD AND LIVING HIS WILL

Due to the quest to hear from God, many people have gone into the paths of darkness and Satan begins to have deep fellowship with them consciously and unconsciously. There are those people who sought the voice of God in good conscience but because they lacked spiritual guidance they delved into divination and sorcery.

This is mostly the heart problem, there must be a right motive to enable us find the right voice. If the motive is wrong, evil and wicked we will most likely find the way of Satan and think it is God that is working.

God did not make anything to be his mediator, he mediates for Himself. Jesus Christ is the mediator so there is no created thing made for the purpose of speaking for God. In the garden of Eden, God comes down to speak to Adam and Eve. Today, many people use mediums trying to reach God but they fail to understand that the right channel takes you to the desired destination. Wrong channels will never get you desired destination.

Inquiring from manmade objects or naturally created things are wrong ways to reach God. We may say that they work but remember that they work does not give them divine approval and it does not mean that God is actually working through them.

If it is not God, it can never be God's voice or His will and purpose. It is time to bring out and remove all other tools and substances that we harbor around us as mediums to God or spirituality.

John 14:6, "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me".

We have the privilege to hear and speak to God directly without any means. He is approachable and He is very easy to reach more than other fake gods, this is the truth that Satan hides and does not want people to know it. Today, the truth is with you. Use it to your benefit and spread this truth that God is easy to reach and approachable

Sin is like a massive heap of refuse, it smells, stinks and can afflict. A sinner is like one who feeds and lives in such a place but there is nothing that the blood of Jesus Christ cannot do for a sinner if he accepts Jesus Christ in his life to be his personal savior and Lord. The blood of Jesus Christ will cleans you from every sin and present you Holy before God. Isaiah 59:2 "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear."

Romans 6:13, "Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness."

Sin is a destroyer and a great reproach. A man who wants to hear from God and speak to him as a friend, he must avoid all manners and forms of sin. There is this sin that happens just in the mind, as a person you may not be found doing it but you have done it in the mind with clear plans.

Jesus Christ commented on this sinful attitude when he said that when we look at a woman lustfully, we have committed fornication. The same way if we think wickedly in our hearts in a revengeful manner against another person, we have sinned.

There is this trick that the devil is using to lure many people into sin and that is, decorating and transforming sin thereby giving it other names and making it look acceptable and we say, "it does not matter".

One of the reasons God left the house of Prophet Eli and chose to speak to Samuel was that the sin of his children have become a reproach to the presence and voice of God. Sin is a communication barrier. It cuts the bridge and line of fellowship with God.

Sin is more dangerous than nuclear weapons of the world put together but funny enough we do not warn against it like we campaign against building of a nuclear weapon. Sin destroys the body, the soul and the spirit of men. Run from it all.

The Holy Spirit is the major blessing Christ gave to us, in fact the only tangible blessing that will keep us till eternity. If you do not have a place for the Holy Spirit then you are nothing but nothing. You are alone and lonely. The Holy Spirit is God relating to us for our good. He is God with us, in us and upon us.

The Holy Spirit is our teacher, revealer of truth, comforter and compassion. Our spirit must be alert and tuned to the frequency of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is given to you; do not live like you are alone.

A good relationship with the Holy Spirit will make you hear the voice of God because in the relationship there will be communication. The more we communicate with the Holy Spirit, the clearer His voice becomes in our ears.

Fellowship with the Holy Spirit increases our knowledge about God, it reveals more our inheritance in God and empowers us to be victorious in our faith in God. The Holy Spirit is who we need to enable us follow God even when He speaks.

Ephesians 1:17-19 "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe".

When Jesus Christ was to give His life for man through the death on the cross, He needed to prepare His disciples in order to keep them in faith. He had nothing to do this but promised them of the Holy Spirit. He called Him; the comforter so He is. To comfort them of the loss or death of Christ by replacing another form of Christ to them. John 14:16-17; "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you".

Notice that Prophet Eli didn't hear the voice and he was not at the position where the voice came but he knew that it was the voice of God. This is because when we become familiar with God's voice, we do not need to verify so much to be certain but we just know it that it is His voice. Just like hearing of the activities of a dear friend, you do not need to be there to know if he did those things but hearing about them, you can say if he did them or not.

Do not always dictate when, how or where to hear the voice of God, sometimes it does not work. One of the things that God hates, is when we want to be the boss or Master and make Him secondary in our lives. There are those who believe that God can only speak to them when they go to prayer mountains and camps but they do not know that the secrets of the kingdom of God and this world can be revealed in the bedroom like Samuel or in the bush like Moses while he was busy with animals. Even Jesus Christ, received divine visitation where animals are fed and kept; manger. You can be working and God decides to interrupt it, be still and listen.

Also we must master the voice and pattern(s) which God uses to speak to us individually.

1 SAMUEL 3:4-11

4 Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.” 5 And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down. 6 Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. 8 A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” 11 And the Lord said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle.

To listen involves being attentive and waiting patiently. A Christian who wants to hear from God should not be in a hurry or rush to come to God and to leave God's presence. We should allow God to fix the time/schedule of meeting. God chose the time to meet Samuel and He also chose the place. Prophet Eli who knew about God and the manner He speaks instructed the boy ; Samuel to listen and showed him the manner of approach to receive the message.
