Saint Clare (Memorial)
THEME: How we forget the past easily
(Deut 4:32-40, Mt. 16:24-28)
11th Friday August 2023
The past is never dead, its not even past, the past gives birth to our present, and enables us to plan for the future, it's serve as our instructor. Without the past our existence remain a dream we are trying to wake up from. But the past reminds us that we once had yesterday and we are now in today and we anticipate tomorrow.
In the first reading of today, Moses reminded the people of Israel of Gods wonderful deeds in their midst, How he delivered them, protected them, provided for them in the wilderness and yet at a slight defficult encounter they start complaining and when things get juicy they abandon their vows to God and start chasing other gods and evil ways.
Today, we also betray our love for God each time we forget our Baptismal vows and Chase after the things of the world, to this Jesus ask in the Gospel reading, what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeit his life? We must know today anytime we forget about God and our promises to love Him, serve him and follow Him to run after evil, we forfeit His promise of eternal life in heaven in the future.
Today we celebrate the Memorial of St Clare who abandoned her parents wealth and sold all her costly things to follow the way of Christ and she never for a moment forgot her vows till death.
May God help us to always remember his love for us and help us never to abandon His way to Chase the Vanity of this world....amen🙏
