Articles of Faith: Beliefs Every Muslim child should know
In Islam, there are six important beliefs called the Articles of Faith. These are the core beliefs every Muslim holds in their heart. They guide Muslims in understanding the world, making decisions, and living their lives according to Allah's teachings. Let's learn about each of these beliefs one by one.
1. Belief in Allah (God)
The first and most important belief is the belief in Allah, the One and Only God. Muslims believe that Allah created everything we see, from the sky to the earth, animals, plants, and even us! Allah is powerful, wise, and kind. He always watches over us, loves us, and knows what is best for us. In return, we show our love by praying to Him, following His teachings, and being good to others.
2. Belief in the Angels
Muslims also believe in angels, special beings created by Allah. Angels do not eat, sleep, or make mistakes; they only do what Allah asks them to do. They help guide us, protect us, and keep a record of our good and bad deeds. For example, there are two angels, one on each shoulder, who write down everything we do. By knowing about angels, we’re reminded to be on our best behavior!
3. Belief in the Holy Books
Allah sent messages to guide people through special books called Holy Books. These include the Torah, given to Prophet Musa (Moses), the Psalms, given to Prophet Dawud (David), and the Bible, given to Prophet Isa (Jesus). The last book is the Qur'an, sent to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Qur'an teaches us about life, kindness, respect, and love for Allah and others. By reading and understanding it, we learn how to be good Muslims.
4. Belief in the Prophets
Prophets were chosen people sent by Allah to teach others about Him. Some of the prophets include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and finally Muhammad (PBUH), the last prophet. Each prophet brought a message from Allah, teaching people to worship Him alone and to be kind and fair to one another. Muslims respect all prophets and learn from their stories about patience, bravery, and devotion to Allah.
5. Belief in the Day of Judgment
Muslims believe in the Day of Judgment, a special day when everyone will stand before Allah to be judged for all they have done in life. Allah will look at our good and bad deeds and decide our place in the hereafter, either in Paradise, a place of happiness, or Hell, a place of punishment. This belief encourages Muslims to make good choices, stay away from bad deeds, and always try to please Allah.
6. Belief in Predestination (Qadr)
The last belief is Qadr, which means that Allah has a plan for everything and knows everything that will happen, good or bad. Sometimes, things don’t go as we want, and that’s okay! Muslims believe Allah’s wisdom is greater than ours. When we face challenges, we stay patient, trust in Allah, and understand that everything happens for a reason.
Why Are These Beliefs Important?
The Articles of Faith help Muslims to live a balanced and purposeful life. They remind us to be kind, honest, and grateful, and help us understand that we are all part of Allah’s wonderful creation. By learning about and believing in these six articles, Muslims know that Allah is always guiding and protecting them.
