Trauma is not something you can solve by doing some exercises, following a method or have work group sessions, or by talking about it when people are not ready. Trauma takes time to process pain. Talking about this when people are not ready can re-traumatise them and make it worse. Trauma also often does not happen to an individual, it happens often in and through families. To process trauma, you need to understand where it comes from, how your emotions are attached to it, understanding these emotions and not pushing them down. There are too many sessions going on with people who have no experience in trauma counseling, that can be dangerous in re-traumatising people.
In Tameer we are starting in youtube videos to make people understand what trauma is and how people react in trauma, and in our Trauma Counseling session we teach how to make people resilient and how to react to people with trauma by connecting to God, ourselves and others again in meaningful ways. We do not teach pastors to be trauma counselors, we teach them how to not make trauma worse, how use the Bible in helpful ways and how to react when people are in trauma. When people are traumatised, make sure to give them a licensed, experience trauma counselor.
