This fascinating video illustrates the formation of auroras, one of the most beautiful natural phenomena visible in Earth’s polar regions. It begins with streams of charged particles known as the solar wind, released from the Sun during solar activity. As these high-energy particles travel through space toward Earth, they encounter the planet’s magnetic field, known as the magnetosphere.

Instead of allowing these particles to directly reach the surface, Earth’s magnetosphere acts as a protective shield, deflecting and guiding most of them around the planet. However, some particles are funneled toward the polar regions, where they collide with gases in the upper atmosphere. These collisions release energy in the form of light, creating shimmering curtains of color across the night sky—commonly seen as green, red, and purple auroras, especially near the North and South Poles.

The Qur’an draws attention to the protective nature of the heavens in a general sense: “And We made the sky a protected ceiling, yet they turn away from its signs.” —(Surah al-Anbiya:32), and the auroras are indicated in an authentic hadith that states "The Prophet (ﷺ) had seen a green carpet spread all over the horizon of the sky on the night journey." —(Sahih al-Bukhari 3233)

This breathtaking visualization takes us on an incredible journey from the depths of outer space toward the heart of our galaxy, the Milky Way. As we travel across unimaginable distances, we pass through countless regions of the cosmos filled with billions upon billions of stars, solar systems, and galaxies, each contributing to the awe-inspiring scale of the universe.

As the camera continues to zoom in, scientists focus on a specific region near the center of the Milky Way, where they observe stars orbiting the galaxy's supermassive black hole at extraordinary speeds. These stars move so rapidly that their motion can be tracked over relatively short periods of time. The observations reveal a fascinating reality: the closer a star is to the black hole, the faster it travels under the influence of its immense gravitational pull.

Such discoveries continue to expand our understanding of the cosmos and leave us humbled by its sheer magnitude. They remind us that despite humanity's scientific achievements, we have explored only a tiny fraction of the universe. Every new observation uncovers another layer of complexity, beauty, and grandeur that challenges our imagination.

More than 1,400 years ago, the Qur'an directed mankind to reflect upon the heavens and their vastness. Allah says: "And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are its Expander." (Qur'an 51:47)

This remarkable phenomenon was captured by astronomers over a period of 25 years (1999–2024), revealing a colossal nebula composed of gas, dust, and stellar debris ejected by a star that exploded long ago. The footage vividly demonstrates the nebula's continuous expansion at an astonishing speed, offering a glimpse into the dynamic and ever-changing nature of the cosmos.

More than 1,400 years ago, the Qur'an drew attention to the vastness and expansion of the heavens. Allah says: "And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are its Expander." — Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:47)

But why so slow???

Consider the difference between a small firework and a massive explosion: the larger the scale, the longer the expansion appears to take. Similarly, Earth rotates at about 1,037 miles per hour and travels around the Sun at about 67,000 miles per hour, yet we do not perceive these speeds because of Earth's immense size and because everything around us moves with it. In the same way, the universe's expansion seems gradual only because it is occurring across distances far beyond human comprehension.

Setting of a Star...

What happens when a star gets too close to a black hole?
One of the most terrifying events in the universe unfolds. The immense gravitational force of the black hole pulls the star inward, stretching and tearing it apart in a process known as tidal disruption. As the star is shredded into streams of matter, enormous amounts of energy are released, producing powerful jets that shoot out into space at incredible speeds. Eventually, the star is consumed and vanishes forever into the black hole's depths.

Remarkably, Allah mentioned this event in the Quran:

"So I swear by the setting of the stars, and indeed, it is a tremendous oath—if only you knew." (Surah Al-Waqi'ah 56:75-76)

This verse invites reflection upon the grandeur and mysteries of the cosmos, reminding us of the immense signs of Allah's power spread throughout the universe.

NASA Astronaut films Aurora from International Space Station.
Auroras occur when charged particles from the Sun interact with Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere, creating dazzling waves of light across the sky. Known as the Northern and Southern Lights.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3233 states, "The Prophet (ﷺ) had seen a green carpet spread all over the horizon of the sky on the night journey."
