Gospel: Mark 7:31-37

He took him aside, away from the crowd (Cf. Mark 7:33)

Jesus took the man who was deaf and could hardly talk aside to the place away from the noisy and chaotic crowd. He took the man away from the crowd so that He could heal the man. After the man was healed, he could now hear and talk and so he kept on telling it to others.

Today, Jesus reminds us how we shall heal away from the people, place or things that can make us deaf and couldn’t talk. He wants us to put ourselves in a place where we can have silence and peace and that place is with Him. By walking and being with Him, we will be healed by Him. And once we are healed, we are also called to be a testimony to others just like the deaf man.

Holy Spirit, help us to have clarity in our mind and heart so that we can truly embrace healing and in turn become a testimony to others. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 21:33-43

The kingdom of heaven will be taken away from you, and given to people who will produce its fruit

In the Gospel today, Jesus said: This was the Lord’s doing, and we marvel at it after sharing with the disciples the story of the landowner who planted a vineyard. In our daily lives, there are things that only The Lord could have done – do we marvel at it? Do we allow ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit to produce fruit out of these works and miracles?

In your current reality and challenges, what fruit is the Lord asking You to produce and realize? Is it humility? Patience? Kindness? Truth? Obedience? What fruit of your suffering can be a gift to your brothers and sisters?

Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit, please help us understand Your will for our growth. Help us give space in our hearts so that You can use our fruits to bless others. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 13:18-23

Now listen to the parable of the sower

In the Gospel today, Jesus explains the parable of the sower. The seeds that fall along the footpath are like the ones who hear The Word but also let the Devil take it away from them, The seeds that fall on the rocky ground stand for the one who hears the word and accepts it but has no roots. The seeds that fall among the thistles represent the one who hears The Word but lets the worldly worries and love take it away while the seeds that fall on good soil are like the ones who hear and understand The Gospel and let it bear fruit.

Today, you have the power to dictate which of these you are and will be. Do you let the seeds of Good News fall on the footpath? Are you like the ‘rocky ground’? Or do you represent the thistles? Or are you the good soil who bear the fruit and produce a hundred, or sixty and thirty times more?

Dear Jesus, help us become like the good soil so that when Your Word can bear fruit through our very lives. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 11:28-30

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me

It is said that the yokes of oxen are tailor-made to fit them well. It is only then that the oxen can do their jobs efficiently. In a similar fashion, when Jesus places his yoke on each of us, we find that it is a yoke that is meant only for us and nobody else.

We oftentimes feel burdened and cast down by the yokes on our shoulders, the burdens and problems of life, and the mission we have to fulfill. Today, Jesus encourages us by reminding us that he himself has placed this yoke on our shoulders therefore we should not fear nor be discouraged.

These yokes are part of his plan for our lives no matter how difficult it can be to see that. What's more, He carries this burden with us every day through his abiding presence and the graces He provides. When we are feeling beaten down by the yokes we bear, let us turn to Jesus who makes our burdens lighter.

Ask him to send more workers into his fields

Jesus went about towns and villages to heal the people. He was overwhelmed with pity for the people. For they were “confused and helpless, like sheep’s without a shepherd.”

The response of Jesus echoes the deep concern and mercy of God for his people. Look around you — in your family, in the workplace. It could be a field ripe for harvest. Many people are ready to give their life. Can Jesus count on you? Would you show them how?

Be prepared for God to use you. Let us pray that more people will respond to this urgent need for workers.

Your faith has made you well

“If I can just touch his robe. I will be healed.”  God has changed the situation of a woman who was not able to lead a normal life for a long time. Jesus changed that and restored her.

Sometimes we are tempted to give up in our situations or people. May we be reminded today that only God can change what seems unchangeable. In our times of desperation, be encouraged to reach out in faith for He will respond — giving us nee purpose and hope.
