The Knights of Columbus 3171 is the landmark of the order for the entire Eastern Visayas Region having been granted charter last October 17, 1948 as the fourth council in the Philippine Fraternal State. Located at the heart of the City of Tacloban, the Council was blessed to own a 783 square meter lot property wherein a two (2) storey building which is approximately 300 square meter ground floor
area was established. The property has its own story to tell being the Chancery of the Archbishop before it was transferred to Palo, Leyte. To preserve the historical building, it was donated to the Knights of Columbus Council 3171, under the guidance of Sto. Nino Parish, to further serve faithful through the Knights of Columbus. The purpose was faithfully kept and fulfilled. Since then the Council reached out to many in terms of charity, to families in need, the distress, widows and orphans of a departed brother, street children, person with disability and the elderly. Council 3171 edifice also was a home to Center for Young Adults (CYA), a program which the former Supreme Knights Virgil Dechant purposely came over to Tacloban City to inaugurate the project.
