"Participating in the 6th National Youth Peace Camp held at San Gabriel the Archangel academy, San Gabriel, La Union last July 4 to 8 is indeed a great exposure to me that encompassed elements of Bible study, nature exploration, workshops on lay ministry, and seminars on achieving net-zero carbon emissions and safeguarding mother nature against all threats was truly an enlightening and transformative experience. This unique amalgamation of spiritual and environmental learning not only provided me with a deeper understanding of my faith and its practical implementation but also instilled in me a profound sense of responsibility towards our planet and its delicate ecosystems.
Starting with the Bible study sessions, engaging with scriptures and reflecting on their teachings in the context of peace and unity brought about a new perspective to me and since I abide to the sacred order of my baptism which I gladly and joyfully accept and confirm during my confirmation. Exploring passages that emphasized love, forgiveness, and reconciliation, I began to comprehend the immense potential for positive change that lies within each of us. The discussions and reflections on how individuals can contribute to peace-building processes within our communities and beyond were intellectually stimulating and personally challenging. It was during these sessions that the connection between spirituality and environmental stewardship started to emerge.
The opportunity to immerse myself in nature during the camp was a strikingly beautiful aspect of the experience. The serene surroundings served as a constant reminder of the fragile yet awe-inspiring wonders of creation. It became evident that it is not enough to merely appreciate nature's beauty; we must actively take steps to protect it. Through guided hikes and interactive sessions, I learned about the importance of biodiversity, the interconnectedness of species, and the delicate balance that sustains life on Earth. Witnessing firsthand the devastating effects of climate change and habitat destruction, it became even more apparent that urgent action is needed to reverse the damage inflicted upon our planet.
The workshop I attended focused on lay ministries which shed light on the integral role that individuals not ordained as clergy play in spreading positive change within their communities. As a passionate young man, I uniquely positioned myself to be an agent of transformation in our immediate spheres of influence that is aligned with the five marks of mission of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines through volunteer work, organizing local initiatives, or promoting sustainable practices, we learned that each action, no matter how small, contributes to the larger goal of creating harmony and justice for all. Understanding that our faith calls us to be vessels of peace compelled me to explore creative and innovative ways to serve others and the environment simultaneously.
Attending seminars specially the call of the times to protect mother earth on achieving net-zero carbon emissions and protecting mother nature against all threats elucidated the depth of the environmental crisis we currently face. Experts shared insights on renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and eco-friendly lifestyle choices, emphasizing the urgency of adopting these practices on a global scale. The discussions were eye-opening, challenging preconceived notions, and inspiring everyone to further investigate their personal contribution to combating climate change. Learning about successful initiatives implemented by various organizations and communities offered tangible examples to emulate, fostering a sense of hope and empowerment.
Overall, the 6th National Youth Peace Camp propelled my personal growth and provided me with an invaluable perspective on the intersection of spirituality, environmentalism, and social justice. It instilled in me a desire to be part of a generation that actively advocates for peace, strives to safeguard our planet, and cherishes the interconnectedness of all life. Armed with newfound knowledge, I am determined to utilize my skills, resources, and influence to contribute to the achievement of sustainable practices, embrace lay ministry opportunities, and promote a culture of peace both locally and globally. It is my hope that others will also join this journey towards a more harmonious and sustainable future, ensuring the well-being of our planet and all its inhabitants."
