SUNDAY Sermon
April 10, 2022
Topic: THE SEVEN SAYINGS OF JESUS
AT THE CROSS
1.) "Father forgive them for they do not know
what they do." Luke 23:34
Meaning: Jesus introduces Himself as High
Priest and Mediator between God and men.
(Heb.7:23, 9:24; Rom.8:34; 1Tim.2:5)
2.) "Today shalt thou be with me in paradise."
Luke 23:43
Meaning: Jesus is the only way to paradise, not
church, not religion, not good works. . .
(John 14:6; Tit.3:5; Eph.2:8-9)
3.) "Woman, behold thy son, ... behold thy
mother.." John 19:26-27
Meaning:
a. woman -- Cessation of Christ connection to
humanity.
-- Mary and Jesus' relation as
mother and son in the flesh has
expired, terminated and cancelled
on that hour.
b. behold thy son -- Jesus introduced or
solicited the attention of Mary
that John His cousin, in His
disappearance on earth would
become His substitute or proxy
responsible for her support. The
apostle John would serve as her
lifetime caregiver or caretaker.
c. behold thy mother -- turn-over of son's
responsibility/moral obligation.
The apostle John has to accept
the son's responsibility committed
to him by Jesus as Mary's lifetime
caregiver or caretaker. It was a
transference of son's
responsibility.
4.) "I thirst." John 19:28 -- physically, Jesus
was dehydrated, he need water.
Meaning: Spiritually, "I thirst" is a universal call
to repentance and Christian
services.
> praises, worship, prayer, giving,
soul-winning, generosity,
benevolence & etc., symbolizes
spiritual water that every Christian
has to offer to Jesus to quench
His thirst.
The world is continually giving a vinegar and gall drinks to Jesus by living a corrupt and wicked life, not to quench the thirst of Jesus, but to ridicule Him. Matt.27:34
5.) "My God, my God why has thou forsaken
me." Matt.27:46
Meaning: Partation/Separation of Christ
divinity and humanity. The Spirit of
Jesus as God has withdrawed and
abandoned his human nature,
leaving a dying physical life at the
cross. The divine nature of Jesus
has to withdraw in order that He can
proceed to paradise on that day as
He promised to the repentant sinner.
6.) "IT IS FINISHED." John 19:30
Meaning: The sacrifice or work of redemption
has been accomplished. All the
prediction/prophecies about His
crucifixion has been fulfilled.
(Isa.53; Psalm 22:16-18, 24:7-10; 1Cor.2:8)
7.) "Father into thy hand I commend my spirit."
Luke 23:46
Meaning: A prayer of commital.
Hallelujah..!!!
