Corpus Christi Sunday, food that gives life. Jesus offers his flesh and blood so whoever partakes will share in the divinity of Christ. Jesus is the author of eternal life through his Resurrection and Ascension to his Father.
Jesus gives us spiritual food, rather than food to nourish us physically. The food that Jesus gives comes from the Father, and anything that comes from the father is LOVE. As Jesus is God's ultimate expression of LOVE, he became the Word incarnate, the Word made flesh. The flesh he gives is God's Word, GOD's LOVE.
That is why the bread and the wine, becomes the Body and Blood of Christ because of the Word of GOD. Just as it was said in DT 8:3, men does not live on bread alone, but from every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Why did Jesus say he is the Living bread that comes from heaven? The bread that he gives transforms life, that is why it is called living bread, it is not dead. Just as the Jews were given a new life from their slavery, Jesus gives new life, an eternal life.

So the next time we receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, let our lives be transformed by the Word of God!
