PENTECOST SUNDAY | The Birthday of the Church

The Holy Mother Church solemnly celebrates Pentecost Sunday, the sacred fulfillment of the Lord’s promise to send the Holy Spirit upon His Apostles. On this blessed day, fifty days after the glorious Resurrection of Christ, the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles gathered in prayer with the Blessed Virgin Mary, as recounted in the Acts of the Apostles.

This divine outpouring of the Holy Spirit marks the birth of the Church’s public ministry and mission in the world. Strengthened by heavenly grace, the Apostles went forth with apostolic zeal to proclaim the Gospel of salvation to all nations. Through the preaching of Saint Peter, many were moved to repentance and received the grace of Holy Baptism, thus becoming members of the Body of Christ.

Pentecost manifests the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit within the Catholic Church. The same Spirit continually guides the Church in truth, sanctifies the faithful, and sustains her sacred mission throughout the ages. From that holy moment in the Upper Room, the Church was sent forth to continue the saving mission of Christ until the end of time.

As the faithful commemorate this most sacred solemnity, may all hearts be renewed by the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. May the People of God remain steadfast in faith, fervent in charity, and faithful in bearing witness to the Gospel of Christ.

Veni, Sancte Spiritus!
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.

AVE MARIA | Flores de Mayo

The Flores de Mayo is a Church tradition celebrated in May in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where people gather to offer flowers, pray the Rosary, and show their devotion. It was introduced by Spanish missionaries and has been practiced by Filipinos for many years as a simple way to express faith, especially among children, who learn to offer not only flowers but also their prayers and daily lives to God. The celebration ends with the Santacruzan, which recalls how Saint Helena and Constantine the Great found the Holy Cross, reminding the faithful that Mary leads everyone closer to her Son.

REGINA CÆLI | Pasko sa Pagkabanhaw

In the early morning of Easter Sunday, the faithful and devotees convened at Catmon Barangay Hall to hold the Sugat, or the encounter between Mary and the Risen Christ. A procession happened, in which the men accompanied the image of the Risen Christ, while the women accompanied the image of Mary. The angels sang Regina Cæli joyfully, as a representative changed the garments of the Blessed Virgin Mary to white.

Shortly after the program, the blessing of the new grotto at the Barangay Hall took place. It was attended by the barangay council, headed by Hon. Inday Magat Lompot. After the blessing, the faithful proceeded in a procession toward the parish church while singing the Gloria.

Upon entering the church, the Holy Mass was celebrated, presided over by Rev. Fr. Eufemio A. Gohetia, the parish priest.

SÁBADO DE GLORIA | EASTER VIGIL

In celebration of Sábado de Gloria, Saint Augustine Parish held the Easter Vigil.
The celebration began with the blessing of the new fire at the church façade. This was followed by the procession, during which the priest proclaimed, “Si Kristo ang kahayag,” at the church door, at the center, and at the sanctuary. The Exsultet was then sung, led by Mr. Aris Bidon.

After this, the Liturgy of the Word took place, followed by the singing of the Gloria and the reading of the Epistle. The Gospel was then proclaimed.

After the Gospel, the blessing of the new water took place, followed by the renewal of baptismal vows. The Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Eufemio A. Gohetia, Parish Priest.

He is Risen. Alleluia!

GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO!

Images were unveiled, and flowers adorned the sanctuary. The bells were rung, and the Gloria was sung. He is Risen. Alleluia!
