MARIAN CELEBRATION | OUR LADY OF LOURDES
FEB 11, 2025

On this day, the Church commemorates the Immaculate Virgin Mary who appeared to Saint Bernadette Soubirous at Lourdes, France, eighteen times between 11 Feb and 16 Jul 1858.

The memorial of Mary under the title of β€œOur Lady of Lourdes” was extended to the Universal Church by Pope Saint Pius X in 1907.

The apparition of Our Lady at Lourdes is one of the most celebrated events in the Catholic Church in the nineteenth century. In fact, the popularity of this devotion contributed to a renewal of the Catholic Faith in France and the shrine at Lourdes remains one of the most popular destinations for pilgrims in the world.

PRAYER

Grant us, O merciful God, protection in our weakness,
that we, who keep the Memorial of the Immaculate Mother of God,
may, with the help of her intercession,
rise up from our iniquities.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

MORNING PRAYER
OUR LADY OF LOURDES

Oh ever immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy, Health of the Sick, Refuge of Sinners, Comfortess of the Afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings. Look upon me with mercy. When you appeared in the grotto of Lourdes, you made it a privileged sanctuary where you dispense your favors, and where many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. My loving Mother, obtain my request. I will try to imitate your virtues so that I may one day share your company and bless you in eternity. AMEN.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, CATHOLIC CHURCH! ❀️
The first Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of the liturgical year in the Catholic Church, a time of renewal and preparation for the coming of Christ. As stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Advent is β€œa season of joyful expectation” (CCC 524), when the faithful are invited to prepare their hearts for both the celebration of Christ’s birth at Christmas and His future return in glory. This is a time for spiritual renewal and a call to conversion, echoing the biblical exhortation of St. Paul to β€œput on the armor of light” (Romans 13:12). In this sense, the first Sunday of Advent is not only the start of a new liturgical year, but also a new spiritual beginning, setting the tone for the whole year of grace ahead.

25 DAYS NA LANG, CHRISTMAS NA! '

Chapter closed! New season begins!

Advent is a season of hope, the hope that God puts into our hearts. In some obscure way, we all long for a new beginning. We long to shed the burden of the past, to rediscover within ourselves a hope that longs for the future, that is ready to begin anew.

Repentance is something more than a reluctant confession of past wrongdoing. Repentance is a whole new way of thinking and change of attitudes. We begin to believe that in Christ we can become what was promised long ago. We begin to believe that the Spirit that descended on Jesus can transform our lives, filling them with hope. We begin to believe in the peace that Christ alone can bring to our troubled hearts and broken world.

Advent is a good time to repent, to forgive and be forgiven, and to rediscover the precious gift of inner peace. We begin with those closest to us, our own family and friends. Without such repentance the Christmas we prepare is mere tinsel.

The month of October is the month of the most Holy Rosary, and today, we are celebrating the most significant day for the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosaryβ€”It was when the Christians won the battle with the help of the Holy Rosary. With this, we would warmly encourage all to pray the most Holy Rosary everyday, most especially in these trying times. To help you form the habit of praying the most Holy Rosary everyday, here are some of the tips you could use as an inspiration:

1. Carry a rosary in your pocket.
2. Say it while you wait.
3. Say the rosary when doing chores.
4. Use visual image or music to help you contemplate.
5. If you are upset, pray for the situation that worries you.
6. Pray while walking, and think of the people in your life.
7. Use each mystery to ask for a particular intention.
8. Set a specific time or schedule.
9. Say it in moments of sadness and spiritual drought.

Gratitude is the best attitude especially in the sunset years of our lives.

If you can say β€œyes” and β€œthank you” for everything, and to everyone that has come into your life, then you are peaceful and free! Do not dwell on the could-have-beens and the should-have beens.

If you stop asking why about anything or anyone in your present life, then you are free to move on.

If you stop being crippled by β€œwhat-ifs” or β€œmaybes,” then you can face tomorrow without fear.

When you say β€œthanks,” you say goodbye to worries.

When you say β€œthanks,” you say goodbye to problems.

When you say β€œthanks,” you say goodbye to regrets.

A MOMENT WITH THE LORD
Lord, thank You for everything and everyone in my life. Amen.

A MOMENT WITH THE WORD
β€œI will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart.” Psalm 9:1

HUMBLE SERVICE
By Fr. Jerry Orbos, SVD

The story is told about a father who told his son: β€œI would like to ask for forgiveness from you for those times I locked you up in the bathroom whenever you misbehaved when you were young.” The son replied: β€œDad, I also would like to ask for forgiveness from you for the times I used your toothbrush to clean the toilet bowl whenever you locked me up in the bathroom.”
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
In today’s Gospel (Mark 9: 30-37) Jesus tells the disciples: β€œIf anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all, and the servant of all.” Humility and service are the keys to a peaceful and meaningful life. Ask yourself today: What is my humility level? How is my service record in life?
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
Without humility, there can be no reconciliation and healing. First of all, let us be humble to God. We have nothing to be proud of before God. God owes us nothing. We owe Him everything. Our so-called worldly β€œachievements” are nothing compared to the blessings He has given to us.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
I shake my head in disbelief and sadness, when I encounter people who are so full of themselves, and who question, belittle, and even deride the presence of God. Let us bow and say to ourselves today: Be not proud; there is a God, and I’m not Him.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
β€œMe first!” This seems to be the motto and mindset of so many people these days. Be it in driving, in lining up, in school, in the office, even in church, there is this constant deep desire to be the first, the brightest, the richest, the most righteous, and the most entitled. Learn these three very important steps in life: Stop; step back; step aside.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
Travel light. This applies not only to the material load in our journey, but to the emotional and spiritual load as well. If we have humility, we can let go of our hurts, our pride, our worries, and anxieties. Let go, and let God. BTS. Believe, Trust, Surrender.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
Be good to yourself. Don’t carry excess and unnecessary baggage in your heart. Forgive now, reach out now; share now; smile now; confess now, not tomorrow, not when you are already sick or dying. By the power of the Holy Spirit, allow yourself to be freed from your prisons and poisons, real or imagined.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
Someone once said, that service is the rent we pay for our stay on this earth. Believe it or not, there are people who do not pay rent at all, and who even collect rent from others, and somehow get away with it. Many so-called public β€œservants” are doing just that: They give a little β€œservice” and keep millions in their pocket. May we have no regrets in the end that we missed the opportunity, the privilege, the chance in a lifetime to serve and help others especially the lost, the last, and the least.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
β€œWhen you run alone, it is called race; when you run with God, it is called grace.” Let us not forget God in our journey. Let us not leave Him behind. Lest, we forget: We came from Him, and we will go back to Him at the end.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
Remember that we travel life’s road not alone. We have companions along the way. Let us learn to be mindful, respectful, and helpful to our fellow travelers. The whole journey is not about speed, comfort, and convenience. If you travel alone and fast, you may end up empty, shallow, proud, and lonely deep inside. Love people, not things. Share your blessings.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
St. Padre Pio, whose feast we celebrate tomorrow, reminds us: β€œReflect upon and keep before your mental gaze, the great humility of the Mother of God, our Mother. The more she was filled with heavenly gifts, the more deeply she humbled herself.” Mama Mary and Padre Pio teach us humble service as we journey on.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
Think about this: If the ride in your car is bouncy, do these two things: lower the pressure of the tire, and increase the load. Same in life: If you want a serene journey, decrease your pride, and increase your love.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
Sept. 28 is the Feast of St. Lorenzo Ruiz, our first Filipino saint. Let us ask Him to help us and our beloved country, the Philippines. So much violence and corruption these days. Yet, we must continue to pray, hope and not be dismayed. β€œDo not let your soul be troubled at the sad spectacle of human injustice; even this has its value in the economy of events.” (St. Padre Pio)
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”-
A moment with the Lord.
Lord, help us to live a life that is humble and helpful. Amen.
