Marlon Macatangay, a civil engineer reflects on the theme โRun the Race, Reap the Harvest,โ sharing a personal journey marked by trials, perseverance and faith. He grew up in a simple but loving family.
Life took a difficult turn when his mother went through depression. As a child, he witnessed her transformation from a strong figure into someone withdrawn and fragile. Despite not knowing how to help, he chose to stay by her side, offering quiet support. Through Godโs grace and proper care, his mother slowly recovered, and in that season, she instilled in him lessons of resilience and independence.
As he grew older, financial struggles challenged his dreams. He wants civil engineering, but his father told him they canโt afford the course and decided to become a working student, but repeated job rejections left him discouraged. Encouraged by his motherโs words, reminding him not to let pride hinder his growth, he sought help from relatives. Their support became a turning point, teaching him that Godโs provision often comes through people.
Marlonโs journey in engineering course was filled with hardships, sleepless nights, doubts, and temptations to give up. Yet, through prayer and perseverance, he graduated and passed the board exam, realizing that every struggle was part of his race and that success was only a glimpse of the harvest. His spiritual journey deepened when he joined the BCBP through a Coffee Talk invitation. This led him to experience God more and find strength in belonging to a supportive community.
Despite his busy schedule at work, he continues attending the BCBP activities, where he found peace, encouragement, and purpose. His involvement also strengthened his relationship with his girlfriend, as they now serve together, growing in both love and faith. Through BCBP, he discovered leadership opportunities that helped build his confidence and sense of responsibility.
Looking back, he recognizes how every challenge shaped him into who he is today. Marlon concludes by sharing life lessons: prioritize mental health and check on loved ones regularly; work hard but pray harder; believe in your dreams and trust Godโs provision; and practice gratitude in all circumstances. Ultimately, he encourages others to keep running their race with faith and trust that, in Godโs perfect time, they too will reap the harvest.
