Father,
by his life and death
Martin of Tours offered you worship and praise.
Renew in our hearts the power of your love,
so that neither death nor life may separate us from you.

The Battle Belongs to the Lord

In 2 Chronicles 20:15 we read, "For the battle is not yours, but God's." This powerful declaration was given to King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah when they faced a vast army threatening their very existence. Overwhelmed and outnumbered, they sought the Lord's guidance, and His response was both reassuring and transformative.

Life often presents us with battles that seem impossible to overcome. Challenges test our faith, drain our strength, and leave us feeling helpless.

Whether it is a health crisis, financial hardship, conflict, or inner struggle, these battles can consume our hearts and minds. In such moments, this scripture reminds us that we are not alone and that the final victory belongs to God. Instead of relying on our own strength or giving in to fear, we are called to trust in His power and timing. Our part is to stand firm, pray, and worship, allowing God to move through our circumstances.

Jehoshaphat's response was to lead his people in praise before the battle even began. They sang and gave thanks to the Lord, declaring His goodness before they saw any victory. In return, God worked on their behalf, turning the enemy against itself and delivering Judah without a single sword raised.

Amen

Memorial of St. Martin of Tours, Bishop

St. Martin of Tours was likely born between 316 and 336 AD in Savaria, Pannonia, which is today Hungary. His father, a high-ranking officer in the Roman army, moved the family to Northern Italy, where Martin grew up. Although raised in a pagan household, Martin embraced Christianity at the age of 10 and joined the Roman cavalry at 15.

At around 18, Martin became famous for sharing his cloak with a beggar in Amiens, an act that led him to experience a vision of Christ that very night. By the time he was 20, Martin chose to become a conscientious objector, refusing to continue fighting and subsequently leaving the military to dedicate his life to Christian service.

Martin pursued his studies under Hilary of Poitiers in Tours. To escape A***n persecution, he lived as a hermit and founded the Liguge Abbey, which still exists today. Although initially reluctant, he was persuaded to become the Bishop of Tours in 371. In this role, he diligently worked to combat paganism and heretical teachings.

In 372, Martin established Marmoutier Abbey as a center for monastic retreat. He stood against the ex*****on of Priscillianist heretics, though his efforts were unsuccessful. Martin passed away in 397 in Candes-Saint-Martin. He was well-known for performing miracles and converting Druids, and he is the patron saint of many, including the poor and soldiers. His feast day is celebrated on November 11, and he is often depicted sharing his cloak with a beggar.

Prayer

You, noble Saint Martin, who have miraculous power
take my supplications with haste to the Heavens,
ask for my home all that is good;
may sorrows, ruins and miseries leave,
and may the Lord deign I merit
blessed fortune in my work (business),
and with it, abundance and prosperity,
so I may give freely to all in need.

Saint Martin, blessed Bishop of Tours,
may your virtues and charity
accompany me always.
I will not cease to pray to you
and to thank Almighty God
for all the favors granted;
and I promise to be charitable
and giving with all my brothers and sisters in need.

Saint Martin please intercede for me;
free and protect all my loved ones and I
from all that is evil. Amen.

EVENING PRAYER
10 November 2025 I Monday

O God, who never allow the gates of hell
to prevail against your Church,
firmly founded on the apostolic rock,
grant her, we pray,
that through the intercession of Pope Saint Leo,
she may stand firm in your truth
and know the protection of lasting peace.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

True Walk

And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

(Micah 6:8)

A traveler once asked a wise man what God truly wanted from people. The answer was simple: not rituals, not perfection, but a life that reflects His heart. Micah's words echo that same simplicity: justice, mercy, and humility. These three threads, woven together, form a life that pleases God far more than any outward show of religion.

To act justly is to treat others with fairness and to stand for what is right even when it costs. To love mercy is to delight in kindness, to forgive freely, and to give without counting. To walk humbly is to stay aware that every good thing comes from God, not from our own strength. These are not separate commands but one rhythm, moving in step with the heart of our Creator.

Where can you act justly, show mercy, or walk humbly today? It may be in how you speak to someone weary, how you respond to unfairness, or how you let gratitude replace pride. Walking with God happens not in grand gestures but in steady, quiet faithfulness.

Saint of the day
Memorial of St. Leo the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church.

St. Leo the Great, remembered as Pope Leo I, was the first pope to be called "the Great." He hailed from a noble Roman family, likely with Tuscan origins, and served as a deacon by the year 431 under Pope Celestine I. Leo was celebrated for his sharp intellect, deep devotion to God, and his talent for uniting Christians by resolving both worldly and theological disagreements.

In 440, following the death of Pope Sixtus III, Leo was elected pope. His time as pope was defined by his commitment and wisdom. He worked tirelessly to maintain the unity of the church, uphold the faith, and safeguard his people from invasions.

A significant part of his leadership involved fighting against heresies like Pelagianism, which denied original sin and the need for divine grace, and Manichaeism, which dismissed the inherent goodness of creation and the human body.

Leo's expertise in theology was evident in a famous letter he wrote to clarify the nature of Jesus Christ, affirming both His humanity and divinity. This letter remains a respected document for its clear and accurate theological insights. Additionally, Leo was known as a peacekeeper, most notably when he confronted Attila the Hun in 452 to defend Rome.

His sermons demonstrated a profound spirituality and a genuine connection with the people's concerns. Pope Leo I's leadership, from defending orthodox beliefs to providing pastoral guidance, made a lasting impression on the church. He died on November 10, 461, and was later declared a Doctor of the Church. Today, his feast day is celebrated annually on November 10.

Prayer

God our Father, you will never allow the powers of hell to prevail against your Church, founded on the rock of the apostle Peter. Let the prayers of Pope Leo the Great keep us faithful to your truth and secure in your peace.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
