God’s Big Idea

Here’s a side note about a church. The church is not just an organization; buildings, places, and denominations—these are not big ideas. Not to belittle our Catholic churches, but I believe we fall into these traps of looking at them and describing them this way. So what is a church? What’s God’s big idea? I believe the church is you and me, a broken world surrounded by broken people, yet God’s forgiving love still overpowers this brokenness. That’s why St. Peter is the rock
of God’s church, reminding everyone that God will always look beyond our sins and focus on our desire to be changed and renewed because He knows this is how to bring people back home to Him.

Friends, that’s what the church is—it's to whom God’s miracles, renewals, and transformations happen. It’s a community of imperfect family members called back to God. A son or daughter who, at one point in their lives, may have forgotten their calling but is willing to go back, to be changed and renewed by God, to fulfill their task of bringing Jesus to the world. To make disciples through God’s love is God’s brilliance. The Feast is one of God’s big ideas, a place of His miracles and wonders.
