Malachi 3:6–7

[6] “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. [7] From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts. But you say, ‘How shall we return?’ (ESV)

Happy 31st Lord's Day!

Psalm 49: 1-20

Why should I fear in times of trouble,
when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me,
those who trust in their wealth
and boast of the abundance of their riches?
Truly no man can ransom another,
or give to God the price of his life,
for the ransom of their life is costly
and can never suffice,
that he should live on forever
and never see the pit.

Last Lord’s Day, we learned from Malachi 2:17-3:5 that our God puts all people through a refining fire. The good news for those who are in Christ is that we are not consumed, because he has already experienced God’s wrath in our place!

We also had an encouraging Pilgrim Training Seminar, where we were made aware and reminded of the gifts that God has given us, which are for the building up of the body of Christ.

In the evening, we learned about the tenth commandment, both from the Heidelberg Catechism and Westminster Larger Catechism.

Heidelberg Catechism
113. Q. What does the tenth commandment
require of us?
A. That not even the slightest thought or desire
contrary to any of God's commandments
should ever arise in our heart.
Rather, with all our heart
we should always hate all sin
and delight in all righteousness. 1

WLC 146 Which is the tenth commandment?
A. The tenth commandment is, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

WLC 147 What are the duties required in the tenth commandment?
A. The duties required in the tenth commandment are, such a full contentment with our own condition, and such a charitable frame of the whole soul toward our neighbour, as that all our inward motions and affections touching him, tend unto, and further all that good which is his.

WLC 148 What are the sins forbidden in the tenth commandment?
A. The sins forbidden in the tenth commandment are, discontentment with our own estate; envying and grieving at the good of our neighbour, together with all inordinate motions and affections to any thing that is his.

Malachi 2:15–16 (ESV)

"Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth. “For the man who does not love his wife but divorces her, says the LORD, the God of Israel, covers his garment with violence, says the LORD of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and do not be faithless.”

We celebrated the 29th Lord's Day with joy and gladness as we feasted on the Table, and were called to greater faithfulness to our Redeemer and to bear the fruit of faithfulness, showing the world that we are His.
