The gifts of the Spirit are given for the unity and edification of the church. The gifts of the Spirit should be operational in the church because they are the rightful inheritance of Godโ€™s people. God intended for His church to possess them.

Paul didn't try to stop these ministries, even though the Corinthian congregation misused the gifts. He said he did not want them to come behind in any gift (I Corinthians 1:7).

He only wanted to bring balance, regulation, control, and edification to the church. The Holy Spirit was not out of control. It was the people, the human vessels through which the Spirit flowed, that were undisciplined.
