On September 10, 2025, Pigcawayan National High School Senior High School held a meaningful event in observance of World Su***de Prevention Month with the theme "Changing the Narrative on Su***de: Start Conversation", emphasizing the importance of promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides and support those in need. The program commenced with a gathering from 6:45-7:00 am, followed by the distribution of yellow and orange ribbons, symbolizing hope and solidarity. The opening ceremony featured prayers led by Ana Nicole Palomero (Christian prayer) and Rhayan Louie Ayao (Muslim prayer), welcome remarks by SHS Guidance Advocate Sir Deolito Hifarva Jr. that set the tone for the event, and inspirational messages from Alejo C. Calambro, Assistant SHS Principal for Operations, highlighting the importance of being aware of the signs that students may be struggling with their mental health, and encouraging everyone to be vigilant and supportive in helping those in need.
The highlight of the event was a poignant combination of spiritual reflection and empowerment, featuring a heartfelt prayer for those who struggle, led by Angelyn Mangharal, which touched the hearts of everyone present. This was followed by a community singing bringing warmth and comfort to the students and everyone. Empowerment messages from SHS Guidance Advocate Ma'am Grace Marcial and Peer President Datuhasrylle F. Sinsuat, inspiring hope and resilience. The solemn candle lighting ceremony, accompanied by a moment of silence, served as a powerful tribute to those who have struggled with mental health, fostering a sense of unity and solidarity among students and teachers. Sir Mateo Jr. C. Catubig, Assistant SHS Principal for Academics closing remarks provided a meaningful conclusion to the event, encouraging everyone to continue the conversation about mental health.
Throughout the day, various activities were conducted, including free hugs, random interviews with the question "What's your biggest multo?", and a Wall of Hope where students could write their thoughts and aspirations. Anonymous messages were also read, spreading love and positivity. The event served as a reminder of the importance of starting conversations about mental health and promoting a supportive community.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Peer Advisers, Sir Deolito Hifarva Jr. and Ma'am Grace Marcial, SHS Peer President Rylle, officers, and especially to the peer educators, peer counselors, LRP, and Peer Cultures for their dedication and hard work in making this event a success. Your efforts have helped create a more supportive and compassionate community, and we are truly grateful.
Our deepest appreciation goes to our school leadersโMateo Jr. C. Catubig, Assistant SHS Principal for Academics; Alejo C. Calambro, Assistant SHS Principal for Operations; and Ricky S. Flores, School Headโwhose support and guidance were instrumental in making this day impactful.
Mental health is just as important as physical health, and it's crucial that we prioritize it in our daily lives. By promoting awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging open conversations, we can create a more supportive and understanding environment for everyone. Let's continue to break the silence and build a community that cares for one another's mental well-being.
