𝗦𝗵𝘂𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗻 means "Thank you/thanks" in Arabic. It is said when you're trying to show appreciation towards something, and thank someone for a good deed.

Halal food refers to food and drinks that are permissible (allowed) under Islamic dietary laws. The word "halal" comes from Arabic and means "lawful" or "permitted." 🍽️

Harira
Origin: Morocco

Definition: Harira is a traditional Moroccan soup made from tomatoes, legumes, herbs, and warming spices, often enriched with meat and thickened to create a hearty texture.

Fun fact: It usually contains tomatoes, lentils, chickpeas, onions, herbs, spices, and sometimes lamb or beef, making it rich in protein, fiber, and vitamins. In Morocco, Harira is commonly paired with dates, chebakia (a sesame and honey pastry), or bread. The sweetness complements the savory soup.

To promote kindness, 𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗔𝗠 launched 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, where 𝗟𝗬𝗙𝗝𝗦𝗛𝗦 students share simple acts of kindness to inspire others to spread compassion every Wednesday.

Cula noticed that Sir Alvin accidentally left the CR pass on the teacher's desk after class. Without hesitation, he picked it up and went to the faculty room to return it. When he arrived, Sir Alvin wasn't there, so Cula carefully placed the CR pass on his desk where it would be easy to find.

‎Unexpectedly, Sir Omar, the adviser of SALAAM, was in the faculty room since he shares the same space with Sir Alvin. He witnessed Cula's simple act of honesty and kindness.

‎Sometimes, the smallest actions make the biggest difference. Returning something that isn't yours may seem like a simple gesture, but it reflects responsibility, integrity, and genuine concern for others. Kindness doesn't always have to be grand—it can be found in the little things we choose to do every day.

God's Judgement Upon Those Who Ascribe a Partner to Him
(From the book of Qur'anic verses about Christianity)

All people are servants of Allah, fully dependent on Him for sustenance and guidance. He created them from nothing, and every person, regardless of race or nation, will be judged by Allah for their beliefs and actions.

According to the Qur'an, believing that Allah has a partner or associate in His divinity is a grave error. Those who ascribe partners to Him fail to recognize His true greatness and oneness.

Allah says that those who claim Jesus (the Messiah) is Allah or the Son of Allah have disbelieved. Jesus himself called the Children of Israel to worship Allah alone, saying that whoever associates partners with Allah will be forbidden Paradise, and the Fire will be their abode. (Qur'an 5:17, 5:72)

Regarding the Trinity, Allah declares that those who say He is "the third of three" have disbelieved, because there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone. He warns of painful punishment for those who persist in this belief but also invites them to repent, reminding them that He is Oft-Forgiving and Most Merciful. (Qur'an 5:73–74)

Finally, Allah warns:

"So invoke not with Allah another god, lest you be among those who receive punishment." (Qur'an 26:213)

Mujaddara

A classic Middle Eastern dish made of cooked lentils and grains, topped with deeply caramelized onions.

Origin: Abbasid Iraq (mainly Baghdad)

Fun fact: Mujaddara means "pockmarks". This describes the unique look of the dish. The dark brown lentils scattered throughout the lighter-colored rice or bulgur resemble "pockmarks" or spots on a surface.

SALAAM'S WEDNESDAY- KINDNESS STORY

"it happened years ago na, it was raining heavily and super lakas pa ng hangin, and papunta ako sa looban ng ssv na nakapayong lang. suddenly, may dumaan na naka tryc na matanda, may mga apo na ata siya, inask niya ako kung saan ako pupunta, sinabi ko ay sa ph1 lang naman sa ssv, ininvite niya akong sumakay sa tryc niya, I was hesitant kasi ako lang din ang magiging pasahero niya pag nagkataon, pero diko alam ba't ako sumakay, supposedly, sa looban ako ng ssv pupunta pero sa gate ako nag pababa malapit sa guard house.

Pag ka baba ko, I was shaking so bad, I realized na I just took a ride with a stranger, but at some point, napaisip ako na what if all he wants to do is be kind despite of what’s happening to our surroundings?

I was shaking badly thinking na I might get kidnapped or may worse pang mangyari, pero medyo naiinis din ako sa thought na pinag isipan ko siya ng masama when all he did was to offer me a kindness and a libreng sakay sa maulan na panahon na yon.

Siguro, the moral of the story is despite of what’s happening in our world today, there is still a kindness among us all, pero walang masama na mag ingat pa rin, huwag din basta tiwala, tiwala at ingat po ang kailangan natin"

Sacrifice and Atonement of Sins
(from the book of Qur'anic Verses About Christianity)

Many Christians believe that humanity needed a great sacrifice to atone for its sins, and that Jesus’ life and crucifixion fulfilled this purpose. However, the Qur’an states that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified, but it was only made to appear so (Qur’an 4:157).

The text then asks why many Christians believe that a blood sacrifice is necessary for God’s forgiveness. It also questions whether a person who sincerely repents for a serious sin, asks God for forgiveness, and intends never to repeat it can be forgiven without a blood sacrifice.

According to the Qur’an, what matters to Allah is a person’s piety, not the blood or meat of sacrifices (Qur’an 22:37). In Islam, forgiveness requires abandoning the sin, sincerely regretting it, asking Allah for forgiveness with the intention not to repeat it, and making amends if others were harmed.

The text also explains that, in Islam, one person cannot bear the sins of another because Allah’s justice is perfect (Qur’an 35:18).
