Monday in the Octave of Pentecost

Throughout His stay in this world, especially prior to the start of His ministry, the Blessed Mother stayed with our Lord Jesus Christ to accompany Him and prepare Him for what lies ahead. And along His Passion up to His death, she was with our Lord Jesus to let her know that she is always there for Him. And while He was hanging on the cross, she was given to us as our Mother, to accompany us along our way as we pursue God's Kingdom to come at the end of our mortal lives. Our Blessed Mother is indeed our mother, who cares for us so much, especially for our salvation, because our Lord Jesus entrusted us to her care, for her to concern herself about in the same way that she took care of Him before. Hence, we should never feel abandoned or neglected, because we have a mother who is always waiting for us to call upon her for our needs. She will certainly bring our concerns to our Lord Jesus and advocate for us, just as our mothers in this world will do for us whenever we need something. As we reflect on the motherhood of the Blessed Virgin Mary, especially for us who are members of the Church, let us ask God for the grace that will make us always turn to her for our needs, especially whenever we feel we do not deserve to be going directly to God because of our unworthiness and sinfulness. May we never be deceived by the world into believing that our Blessed Mother has no role in the process of our salvation, for this is the lie that has started to emanate in today's modernized society.

Pentecost Sunday
Feast of Mary Help of Christians
Commemoration of the Translation of Our Father Dominic

The peace that our hearts and souls long and aspire for can only be provided to us by God. While in this world, we will be in constant pursuit of our happiness, of the fulfillment that will transform us from being slaves of sin and of this world to becoming true children of God. Of course the world will do its best to deceive us into believing that this can be attained from what it can give to us or when we go deep within ourselves and search for our happiness within ourselves. This makes sense from the perspective of the world. But this is not what it really is, because the genuine fulfillment of our lives can only be reached through our faith in God. This is why we should constantly ask Him to send out His Spirit to us, to guide us in everything that we do and to always remind us that we should only seek God and His Kingdom, never the world and its vanities. Only then can we be truly aligned to our ultimate goal of holiness, which is our pathway to God and to a life of His graces. As we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, let us continuously ask God for His Spirit to come down upon us everyday, especially whenever we make significant decisions in our lives. May we be always reminded to turn to Him first whenever we are in need of guidance, for only God can provide us with the right direction and instructions for us to navigate through every problem and challenge that come our way.

Commemoration of Saint Desiderius, Bishop and Martyr

God's plans for humanity is beyond anyone's understanding. Even if we do our best to analyze what He has laid our for us, no matter how brilliant we think we are, we will never come to understand His rationale for making things as they are and events as they do. Not even the most advanced and most sophisticated supercomputer will ever be able to analyze and explain God's plans for He is beyond everything, and what we can understand from our perspective, even with the aid of modern technologies, is just a tiny speck of what He thinks about. Does this mean we just have to live our lives passively and let things happen as they do from now on? Of course not. God calls us to an active participation in the unfolding and the coming to fruition of His plans. By doing so, we get to unravel His mystery from our point of view and be able to stand in awe before His majestic glory. Our faith does not require us to be able to present a discourse on what we understand about it. Rather, we are being called to believe His truths and to live by these until we complete our pilgrimage in our mortal lives in this world. As we commemorate the martyrdom of St. Desiderius, let us ask God for the grace that will make us accept and understand our place in this world and our role in the bigger picture of His plans for our lives. May we never give up in doing our best to make sense of what happens in our lives, understanding that our comprehension of these will never progress without God's graces being poured down upon us.

Feast of Saint Rita of Cascia, Widow and Religious

Our genuine love for God is manifested by the way that we live our lives in this world. It is easy to say that we love Him, whether we mean it or not, especially nowadays when simple words do not usually have weight because one can say something without sincerity. What matters most is how we support what we say with what we do, especially when we are faced with difficult situations that challenge us in putting into action whatever we say. This is when our love for God is put to the test and challenged by the adversary, who wants to show that we love the world more than God, that our self-preservation matters more than our committed service to God. Loving God is not easy while we are in this world and belonging to it, because we will always be faced with dilemmas that make us question whether we can still go further or just give up. But if our devotion to Him is true and if our commitment is sincere, then we will surely be able to succeed over any challenge that comes our way and maintain our commitment to love Him. As we celebrate the Feast of St. Rita of Cascia, let us ask God for the grace that will make us stay in our commitment to God even when faced with challenges that are beyond our capacity. May what we say be manifested into what we do at every moment of our lives until we finally enter the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ to come.

Optional Memorial of Saint Christopher Magallanes and Companions, Martyrs
Commemoration of Blessed Hyacinth Marie Cormier, Priest

No matter how inconvenient it might be for us, nothing can ever stop us from serving God through our communities once our faith in Him becomes genuine. The grace of our faith in Him will make us realize the necessity to serve, that nothing else matters for us in this world than to be of service to others, which is a manifestation of our service to and love for God. Even if it costs us our lives, it will not be a matter to tear us down. As our faith has detached us from the world, it even extends down to ourselves and even our lives. Hence, we can willingly give up everything for God. As we reflect on the holy martyrdom of St. Christopher Magallanes and his companions, let us ask God for the grace that will make us truly grow in our faith in Him. May what we believe in through words transform us from our worldly selves to becoming holy and righteous in the eyes of God.

Optional Memorial of Saint Bernardine of Siena, Confessor and Priest
Commemoration of Blessed Columba Guadagnoli of Rietti, Virgin

To follow our Lord Jesus Christ is to abandon the world and detach ourselves from everything that is in it, especially the ones that can hinder our worship and committed service to God. By doing so, we journey in this world with the awareness that we do not belong to it, for we belong to God alone. And when we do this, those around us will see for themselves how God has been transforming us to become better individuals and truly His children. And by our works, ignited and enabled by God’s bountiful graces, our communities will be blessed and inspired to also follow our Lord Jesus. As we reflect on the holy life and works of St. Bernardine of Siena, let us ask God for the grace that will make us commit to follow our Lord, by means of our adherence to His statutes and commandments, for a start. May our obedience lead to commitment, and eventually to a genuine holy life dedicated to God’s Kingdom to come.
