Isaiah 43:2
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.”
God never promised that we would avoid deep waters. In fact, He said, “When you pass through.” Not if — but when. Problems are part of life. There will be seasons that feel overwhelming, like waves crashing over you.
And it doesn’t stop there. The verse also says, “When you walk through fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not consume you.” Some struggles feel like water — they try to drown you. Others feel like fire — they test you, pressure you, and stretch you to your limits.
But the promise is powerful: “I will be with you.”
The focus is not on the size of the river or the heat of the fire, but on the presence of God. You may walk through hardship, but you will not face it alone. The storm may rise, the flames may burn around you, but they will not destroy you.
Sometimes problems are not meant to drown you or consume you — they are meant to refine you. The pressure you feel today may be shaping the strength, faith, and character you will need tomorrow.
So when life feels heavy, remember this:
You are not abandoned in the waters. You are not forgotten in the fire. God walks with you through them.
