The Gospel Today talks about the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard, wherein the workers got jealous knowing they received the same wage as those workers who started to work later.

As a result of our envious actions, we are often compelled to behave in depraved ways. Dissatisfaction, comparison, pride, and a desire for worldly things all give rise to enviousness. To combat envy, let us embrace and love our own abilities and talents and offer them to the Lord. Acceptance and acknowledgment can all help heal jealousy.

The gospel reminds us that God's Kingdom does not work in such a way that the first believers or followers of Christ are more gratified, but that all receive the same grace from God. God is a generous God. He is equal to all, regardless of their circumstances or differences, just as in the parable story. The parable's main point is that everyone arrives at the vineyard (faith) at a different point in their lives. Some people are lifelong disciples of Jesus, while others convert near the end of their lives. Both groups are treated equally in God's kingdom.

Happy Sunday, Everyone!

Goodmorning brothers and sisters, Today August 27, 2023 is the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time.

On this Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Lord invites us to reflect on the mystery of the Church and her leadership as instruments of God's plan for the spread of the Kingdom. We thank the Lord for having called us to be part of His new People. We can thereby enjoy the gifts of God's Word, the grace of the Sacraments, and the infallible guidance of our Church leaders in matters of doctrine and morals.
In brotherly solidarity with the whole Church, we direct, in a special manner, our affectionate thoughts to the Holy Father, the successor of the apostle Peter and the Vicar of Jesus Christ on earth. In communion with him and all believers, let us offer this Eucharist in behalf of and for the needs of all mankind.

Gospel of the Day | Luke 1:26-38

The Birth of Jesus Foretold
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, β€œGreetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, β€œDo not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

34 β€œHow will this be,” Mary asked the angel, β€œsince I am a virgin?”

35 The angel answered, β€œThe Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”

38 β€œI am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. β€œMay your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Today, August 15, marks the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. The Feast of the Assumption is Our Lady's primary feast day, celebrating her assumption into Heaven as the Mother of God and one of the first humans to achieve salvation and eternal life through her Son, Jesus Christ. She is crowned Queen of Heaven, the most holy saint, and the closest human being to God.

What is the significance of the Assumption of Mary?

The Assumption of Mary is somewhat a preview of what our lives would be. She was taken up to heaven with her body and soul; she did not have to wait for the end of the world as God had granted her a special privilege because of her sinlessness and fullness of grace and faith. This was all explained through the four Marian dogmas that state that;

Mary had been immaculately conceived
Mary has perpetual Virginity
Mary is the Mother of God
Mary was assumed into heaven with her body and soul

On November 1, 1950 Pope Pius XII said that the assumption of Mary was a Dogma of Faith.

Mary is known for many titles, which include the Title "Mother of the Church." As Christians, Mary has been one great example for us, an example of how our faith should be towards our Saviour. Let us be reminded that the Blessed Virgin Mary had completed the course of her earthly life and was assumed, body and soul, to heavenly glory. Let this reminder be one of the things to consider in our everyday lives to try and be like the mother of our Savior.

Let us celebrate the primary feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with reflections on how our Christian lives should be.
