CALeb FLYNN & ALLEIGHA BOTNER WHEN WORSHIP HIDES A BROKEN HEART
Caleb Flynn, a former worship/music pastor, was seen singing on stage with worship leader Alleigha Botner in a church worship setting.
Behind the public image of worship, however, a deeply disturbing story was unfolding involving Caleb, his wife Ashley Flynn, and an affair that later became central to the criminal case surrounding Ashley’s death.
This story is heartbreaking but there is also a lesson every Christian should remember.
Do not let the sins of people destroy your relationship with God.
A pastor can fall.
A worship leader can fall.
A church member can fall.
A person standing on a stage singing about God can still make terrible choices.
But God has not fallen.
Caleb Flynn’s actions do not represent God.
Alleigha Botner’s actions do not represent God.
No pastor, worship leader, or Christian represents God perfectly.
Above every sinner is a holy and faithful God.
So when you hear stories like this, don’t say, I don’t want anything to do with Christianity anymore.
Instead, say:
Lord, help me never to become like this. Help me remain faithful to You.
Our faith cannot be built on the character of a pastor.
Our faith cannot be built on a worship leader.
Our faith cannot be built on what we see people doing on a church stage.
Our faith must be built on God.
There are still sincere Christians.
There are still faithful pastors.
There are still genuine worshippers.
There are still people serving God with clean hearts.
And most importantly, God is still worthy of our worship.
The question is not whether every person around us will remain faithful.
The question is ….
Will WE remain faithful to God?
When people disappoint you, don’t walk away from God.
When church leaders fail, don’t stop praying.
When Christians sin, don’t stop worshipping.
Keep your eyes on God. Keep your heart faithful. Keep following Jesus.
Because people can fail us but God never fails.
May God help us all to live what we sing, not just sing what we believe.
