Last Saturday afternoon, May 2, 2026, Mayon Volcano generated a massive Pyroclastic Density Current (PDC) from the Mi-isi Gully on its southwestern slopes. As a result, several parts of Albay were blanketed by ashfall, affecting dozens of barangays in Guinobatan, Camalig, Oas, and Ligao City. Streets turned gray, motorists were caught in the ashfall, and thousands of families were forced to flee their homes. As of today, Mayon Volcano remains at Alert Level 3.

Happy Good Shepherd Sunday!

As we celebrate Christ, our Good Shepherd, may we continue to listen to His voice, follow His path, and become shepherds after His own heart.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).

Fourth Sunday of Easter is known as Good Shepherd Sunday, when we hear again the voice of Christ who calls, leads, and lays down his life for his flock.

On this same day, the Church celebrates the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. We ask the Lord to stir the hearts of our young people, that they may listen with openness and respond with generosity to his call.

We pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life, and also for the vocation to married life and family. These are not separate paths competing with each other, but different ways of living one Christian vocation: the call to holiness and love in Christ.

May every person discover where the Lord is calling them, and have the courage to say yes.
