Ash Wednesday: A Call to Pause, Return, and Begin Again

As we share today’s Mass schedules, we are also reminded that Ash Wednesday is not simply another day on the calendar. It marks the beginning of Lent — a sacred season of repentance, renewal, and a sincere return to God.

In the midst of our responsibilities, worries, and daily routines, this day invites us to pause and remember what truly matters.

Why is Ash Wednesday important?

The ashes placed on our foreheads are not meant for display. They are a solemn sign that reminds us:

Our lives are fragile and finite.

We are not in control of everything.

We are in constant need of God’s mercy and grace.

These words echo in our hearts: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
They are not words of despair, but of humility and hope — a call to turn back to the Lord who gives life.

How can we prepare before going to Mass?

Preparation does not require anything elaborate. A sincere heart is enough.

1. Prepare your heart.
Even on your way to church, offer a simple prayer:
“Lord, I come to You as I am. Help me begin again.”

2. Reflect on one thing to let go of.
Lent invites us to release what burdens the soul. It may be:

resentment we have long carried

habits that distance us from God

attitudes that harm our relationships

3. Choose one good practice to begin.
Lent is not only about sacrifice, but also about growth:

setting aside a few moments for daily prayer

reading a short passage from the Gospel

practicing patience and kindness within the family

4. Observe fasting and abstinence (as appropriate).
This discipline is not merely a rule. It teaches self-denial, solidarity with the poor, and a deeper hunger for God.

A gentle reminder: Lent is not for the perfect

Many hesitate, thinking they are not ready to change. Yet Ash Wednesday is not for the perfect — it is for the weary, the struggling, the distracted, and the wounded. It is for all of us.

The Lord does not ask that we arrive flawless. He simply asks that we return.

As we share the Mass schedule today…

Let us not come merely out of routine.
Let us come with hearts ready to repent, to trust, and to begin anew.

May this Ash Wednesday be the first step toward a more faithful, prayerful, and grace-filled life.

We look forward to praying with you. 🙏

❤️ How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day as a Catholic

Making Christ the Heart of Every Expression of Love

Valentine’s Day can be beautiful, joyful, even romantic — but for us Catholics, it becomes holy when love reflects the heart of Jesus Christ.

This is not about rejecting flowers or chocolates.
It’s about making love deeper than gestures and stronger than feelings.

---

🌹 1. Begin with Prayer Together

Before any dinner, gift, or surprise — pray.

A simple prayer:

> “Lord, thank You for the gift of each other. Teach us to love the way You love — patiently, faithfully, and without conditions.”

Prayer transforms romance into covenant.

---

💌 2. Choose Presence Over Presents

The greatest gift is undivided attention.

Put away phones.
Look into each other’s eyes.
Listen — not to reply, but to understand.

Love grows where presence replaces distraction.

---

🤍 3. Practice Forgiveness as an Act of Love

No relationship survives without mercy.

Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to say:

“I’m sorry.”

“I forgive you.”

“Let’s begin again.”

Forgiveness is love purified by humility.

---

✝️ 4. Offer a Sacrifice for the One You Love

Christ showed love through sacrifice.

Small acts matter:

Waking up earlier to help

Taking over a tiring responsibility

Offering patience instead of irritation

Love becomes holy when it costs something.

---

🕯️ 5. Remember Those Who Feel Unloved

Christ’s love is never exclusive.

Reach out to:

A widowed relative

A friend who is alone

Someone suffering silently

A message, call, or visit can become a channel of God’s love.

---

💞 6. Honor the Sacrament of Marriage and the Gift of Vocation

Inspired by Saint Valentine, who defended Christian marriage, Valentine’s Day is a time to honor faithful love:

Couples: Renew your commitment in your hearts.

Families: Celebrate the love that holds you together.

Single persons: Embrace your vocation as a path to love and service.

Love is not measured by status — but by faithfulness to God’s call.

---

❤️ Catholic Valentine’s Challenge: Love Like Christ

This Valentine’s Day, choose:

✔ Patience over irritation
✔ Presence over distraction
✔ Forgiveness over pride
✔ Sacrifice over convenience
✔ Christ at the center of everything

Because the most powerful love story is not written in cards —
it is written on the Cross.

Final Reflection

Valentine’s Day is not just about romance.
It is about learning to love in a way that reflects Christ.

A love that stays.
A love that serves.
A love that leads others to God.

And in a world starving for real love,
that witness may be the most beautiful gift we can give. ❤️

o kaya
“Magsisi kayo at maniwala sa Mabuting Balita.”

Ito ay paalala ng tatlong mahalagang katotohanan:

1. Kababaang-loob

2. Pagsisisi at Pagbabalik-loob

Why Your Home Needs a Bible

Be honest.
How many Catholic homes have a Bible somewhere… but it’s closed most of the time?

Sometimes it sits on a shelf. Sometimes it’s displayed nicely. But rarely opened.

The Bible is not just a Church book. It is not only for priests, seminarians, or Bible study groups. It is God choosing to speak into your ordinary life. Your family decisions. Your struggles. Your questions. Your doubts.

When a family reads even a short Gospel passage together, something quiet but real happens. The atmosphere shifts. Words become gentler. Choices become clearer. Children grow up not just knowing prayers, but recognizing the voice of God.

You do not need to read chapters and chapters. Start small.
The Gospel of the day. A Psalm before bedtime. A few verses before dinner.

But make sure it is a Catholic Bible. We use the full 73-book canon, including Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, and 1 and 2 Maccabees. Look for editions like the New American Bible, Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition, or Jerusalem Bible. These contain the complete Scriptures recognized by the Church and helpful notes that guide you safely in understanding.

If you are unsure what to buy, ask your parish. The Biblical Apostolate ministry is there for this exact reason. They can recommend good editions, guide you on how to begin reading, and even walk with your family if you feel lost.

A Catholic home without Scripture slowly becomes dry without realizing it. We rely only on opinions, social media, or emotions. But a home that listens regularly to the Word of God becomes rooted. Steady. Less shaken by trends and confusion.

The Bible is not meant to decorate your home.
It is meant to form your home.

Open it. Even if it feels awkward at first.
God has been waiting to speak.
