POPE LEO XIV REMINDS PRIESTS: REMAIN FAITHFUL TO LITURGICAL TEXT, RUBRICS

Pope Leo XIV reminded priests of the importance of remaining faithful to the Church’s approved liturgical texts and rubrics, saying the dignified celebration of the sacred mysteries requires respect for the Church’s norms.

“Moreover, in order to promote the dignified celebration of the sacred mysteries, we must emphasize the need for fidelity to the approved texts and instructions,” the Pope said.

In a letter to Cardinal Arthur Roche, prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Pope Leo particularly emphasized the responsibility of priests and others involved in preparing liturgical celebrations to respect the rites promulgated by Pope St. Paul VI and Pope St. John Paul II.

The Holy Father said such respect must not be reduced to the mere observance of rules.

“It is vital” that fidelity to the rites “springs from an inner attitude of openness and trust in God, manifesting humility before his greatness and sincere fidelity to ecclesial communion,” he said, citing his catechesis on the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium.

The Pope made the remarks in his message to participants of a liturgical conference held at Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon, United States.

He also called for ongoing liturgical formation among both clergy and lay faithful, stressing that it should not be treated as a specialization reserved for a few experts but as an essential disposition of the entire People of God.

Pope Leo said priests, by virtue of Holy Orders, have a particular role as “mystagogues,” guiding the faithful toward a deeper understanding of the sacred mysteries.

The letter was dated June 29 and released by the Holy See on Aug. 14, 2026.

𝟭. 𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗜𝗫𝗘𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗘𝗬𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗛𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗧, 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦.
The Rosary is centered on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As you meditate on the Mysteries, your mind is gradually redirected from anxious thoughts to God's saving work.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." (Philippians 4:6-7)

𝟮. 𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗚𝗢𝗗'𝗦 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗗.
The Rosary is deeply rooted in Scripture. The Our Father comes from Matthew 6:9–13, while the Hail Mary is drawn from Luke 1:28 and Luke 1:42. Filling your heart with God's Word helps replace fear with faith.

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105)

𝟯. 𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗥𝗛𝗬𝗧𝗛𝗠𝗜𝗖 𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗠𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗕𝗢𝗗𝗬.
The slow, repetitive prayers encourage steady breathing and quiet reflection. Studies have found that repetitive prayer and meditative practices can activate the body's relaxation response, lowering stress and helping calm anxious thoughts.

𝟰. 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗔𝗟𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗧𝗢 𝗝𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗦.
Catholics do not pray the Rosary because Mary replaces Christ, but because she always points us to Him.

"Do whatever He tells you." (John 2:5)

As a loving spiritual mother, Mary intercedes for us and encourages us to trust her Son.

𝟱. 𝗜𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗚𝗢𝗗 𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗟.
Each Mystery reveals that even suffering has meaning in God's plan. Meditating on Christ's Passion and Resurrection strengthens hope that God can bring good even from difficult situations.

"We know that in everything God works for good with those who love Him." (Romans 8:28)

𝟲. 𝗜𝗧 𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗦 𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗗 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗘.
Jesus promised a peace unlike anything the world offers.

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled." (John 14:27)

The Rosary disposes our hearts to receive that peace through prayer and trust.

𝟳. 𝗜𝗧 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗛𝗔𝗕𝗜𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗚𝗢𝗗 𝗗𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗬.
Anxiety often grows when we try to carry every burden alone. The Rosary becomes a daily act of surrender, reminding us to entrust our worries to the Lord.

"Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

The Rosary is not a magical formula that instantly removes every anxious feeling. Rather, it is a powerful Christian prayer that draws us into deeper communion with Jesus through the intercession of Mary. By combining Scripture, meditation, steady prayer, and trust in God's providence, it can bring genuine peace to the heart and help lessen anxiety over time.

As Saint Padre Pio famously said:

"The Rosary is the weapon for these times."

When fear overwhelms you, pick up your Rosary, not because the beads have power in themselves, but because they lead you to Christ, who alone is the source of lasting peace.

✝️WHY GOD ALLOWS GOOD PEOPLE TO SUFFER, A CATHOLIC ANSWER YOU’RE NOT EXPECTING😳🤔

Everyone asks it.
Few understand it.
Even fewer are ready for the real answer.

Why do the faithful suffer?
Why do the innocent cry?
Why do people who pray, serve, and love still walk through fire?

Scripture gives an answer far more mysterious, and far more beautiful, than we imagine.

Let’s uncover it.

✝️ 1. Suffering Is Not Proof of God’s Absence, It Is the Mark of His Presence

In the Bible, those closest to God suffer the most:

Abraham loses everything.

Moses is rejected.

David is hunted.

Jeremiah is thrown into a pit.

Mary receives a sword in her soul.

Jesus carries a Cross.

If suffering meant God abandoned you,
then Jesus was abandoned the most,
and that is impossible.

Suffering is not the absence of God.
Many times, it is the signature of God.

✝️ 2. Good People Suffer Because They Carry What Others Cannot

Some souls are chosen to carry crosses heavier than others.

Not as punishment.
But as participation.

St. Paul shocks us with these words:

“I fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ.”
(Colossians 1:24)

What could possibly be “lacking” in Christ’s sufferings?

Not value.
Not power.
Not redemption.

What is lacking is your participation.

God allows certain good people to carry crosses
so that grace can flow to others through them.

Some suffer for families.
Some suffer for nations.
Some suffer for souls who refuse God.

Suffering becomes intercession.

✝️ 3. God Uses Suffering as a Scalpel, Not a Hammer

Suffering in Scripture is not destruction.
It is purification.

God never wounds to injure,
He wounds to heal.

Think of gold in fire.
The heat does not destroy it;
it reveals its purity.

In the same way:

Trials burn away pride

Loss burns away attachment

Delays burn away impatience

Betrayal burns away illusions

Illness burns away self-sufficiency

Suffering is not God’s hammer.
It is God’s surgical tool.

The saints are not made on mountains but in furnaces.

✝️ 4. Suffering Opens Gates That Comfort Locks Shut

There are places in the human heart
that comfort will never touch.

But suffering enters.

You learn compassion only when you have hurt.
You learn mercy only when you have needed it.
You learn silence only when words fail.
You learn prayer only when nothing else works.

There are things God can give you only in darkness,
because in darkness, the soul finally stops running.

✝️ 5. Suffering Is the Only Road God Trusts to Produce Saints

The Church has no saint without wounds.

Not one.

Suffering is not a detour on the journey of holiness.
It is the journey.

Jesus did not say:

“If anyone wants to follow Me, let him take His blessings and come.”

He said:

“Let him take up his cross.” (Matt 16:24)

Not because God delights in your pain.
But because holiness without sacrifice does not exist.

✝️ 6. The Holiest Souls Suffer Because They Can Survive the Weight of Glory

Some people carry heavier crosses
because they have stronger souls.

God gives deeper wounds
to those He will fill with deeper grace.

He prunes the branches
that are meant to bear the sweetest fruit.

When you see a good person suffering,
you are witnessing a soul God is preparing
for something greater than comfort.

You are witnessing the crafting of a saint.

✝️ 7. The Final Mystery: God Himself Chose Suffering

Christianity is the only religion
where God does not watch men suffer,
He suffers with them.

He takes the nails.
He takes the spear.
He takes the abandonment.
He takes the grave.

This is the ultimate answer:

You do not suffer instead of Christ.
You suffer with Christ.

Every tear becomes prayer.
Every wound becomes grace.
Every cross becomes communion.

✝️ SO, WHY DO GOOD PEOPLE SUFFER?

Not because God is absent.
But because God is dangerously close.

Not because God is punishing them.
But because God is shaping them.

Not because they are forgotten.
But because they have been chosen.

And the Cross placed on their shoulders
is the same Cross that opened Heaven.
