Today there is no set. Just one song. Psalm 119. The longest psalm.

Aside from its length, why do you think it’s one of the psalms that appeals to a lot of people? How did it help you worship God?

This set of songs includes the shortest psalm in the whole book. But how did the 2 verses in that psalm capture the message of the rest of the psalms in this set?

How did those 2 verses resonate with you as you reflect on the LORD’s love for you and the people around you?

Pastor Franco Ferrer concluded our Churchology series last week with his sermon on “Building a Healthy Church” from Ephesians 4:11-16. One of the key insights from his preaching is clarifying a Biblical interpretation of verse 11 that the office of the apostles and prophets have ended when the New Testament was completed. What we have in our midst now are evangelists (church planters and missionaries, according to Ptr. Franco) and pastors-teachers.

This sermon brought us to the Biblical use of shepherds (or pastors) and interchanging it with the word “elders”. It is eye-opening for people who think “pastors” are titles that people give to men. But in the Bible it is God who calls men to this office, as nominated by elders whom God has already called and as affirmed by the people of God. And this is exactly what IBCM has witnessed 2 Sundays ago when lay elders were ordained through prayer. And speaking of prayer, Ptr. Franco pointed out in the last part of this clip that our prayer is that there will be more of them in our congregation.

Let’s also take this time to pray for Ptr. Franco and his family as his dad passed away this week. Let’s pray that God will comfort and strengthen their family at this time, in Jesus’ name! 🙏

“Let others bless themselves and their idols, but do thou bless the LORD.” —Charles Spurgeon

HLeadingtheNationstoHimift from the first 11 verses of Psalm 102 to the rest of the verses? What changed? How is this shift reflected in the tone/theme of the rest of the psalms in Book 4?

And why would David command his soul to bless the LORD? Would you do it, too?

“Charles Spurgeon was one of the greatest preachers in the history of Christianity. He was known as the “Prince of Preachers.” If you’ve ever read one of his many available sermons from the 1800s, then you can understand why so many are still impressed with his preaching ministry.

BUT it was PRAYER that Spurgeon believed gave his gospel-centered ministry such power. That’s why he said, “I would rather teach one man to pray than ten men to preach.” Spurgeon knew how God loved to work through prayer to show his power and presence. Spurgeon also knew of the tendencies of Christians, even pastors and leaders, to overlook it.”

This set of songs includes the only psalm that is attributed to Moses. What is the significance of the fact that this psalm was written centuries before majority of the psalms were written?

What characteristics of God were highlighted by Moses? How is that similar or different to the other psalms, at least in this set?

This set of songs ends the Book 3 of Psalms. Did you notice anything distinct in the psalms in Book 3?

It’s a joy to read Scriptures together. There are revelations that God gives to some but not to others, but when you look into and read God’s Word together (as how it was done in Scriptures), you discover things as a community. Just like Tita Gladys Sarco’s observation last week that she gladly shared with me one morning when she got into the office. It was really amazing to learn something new from her. Will you approach her and ask her about that?

Will you read the Bible from cover-to-cover with us, your church community?
