According to St. Bernadette, the visionary at Lourdes in 1858, the Virgin Mary proclaimed herself "๐‘ป๐’‰๐’† ๐‘ฐ๐’Ž๐’Ž๐’‚๐’„๐’–๐’๐’‚๐’•๐’† ๐‘ช๐’๐’๐’„๐’†๐’‘๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’".

Further, St. John Paull II designated February 11 as World Day of the Sick, "a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one's suffering for the good of the Church, and of reminding us to see in our sick brother and sister the face of Christ who, by suffering, dying and rising, achieved the salvation of humankind." (Letter Instituting the World Day of the Sick, 13 May 1992,3).

FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY | DEC. 30 2022

The Holy Family Prayer

JESUS, Son of God and Son of Mary, bless our family. Graciously inspire in us the unity, peace, and mutual love that you found in your own family in the little town of Nazareth.

MARY, Mother of Jesus and Our Mother, nourish our family with your faith and your love. Keep us close to your Son, Jesus, in all our sorrows and joys.

JOSEPH, Foster-father to Jesus, guardian and spouse of Mary, keep our family safe from harm. Help us in all times of discouragement or anxiety.

HOLY FAMILY OF NAZARETH, make our family one with you. Help us to be instruments of peace. Grant that love, strengthened by grace, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and trials through which our families sometimes pass. May we always have God at the center of our hearts and homes until we are all one family, happy and at peace in our true home with you. Amen.

DECEMBER 25 | THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD

On December 25, we observe the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord. Since the fourth century, Christians have marked this day as the beginning of the Christmas season.

Second only to Easter, Christmas is one of the most important days in the Church. The Nativity tells the story of Jesusโ€™s birth in Bethlehem. Because there was no room at any of the inns due to the census, Jesus, the savior of the world, was born in a stable. After Jesusโ€™s birth, Angels proclaimed him as a savior for all, and shepherds went to the stable to adore him.

In the 40 days before Christmas, the faithful participate in Advent, a time of spiritual cleansing and preparation for the birth of Jesus.

The Nativity of Jesus celebrates the incarnation of God, which means that he came to earth to live as a man and undo the damage caused by the fall of the first man, Adam.

And this is the crux of why we celebrate Christmas: because it allowed us to receive Godโ€™s grace. There is nothing we can do to earn salvation. None of us will measure up. And yet, God offers his grace as a free gift.

Christmas serves as a reminder that God continues to love us, no matter what we do or who we are. It is not about acting the right way, or always doing the right thing. Godโ€™s love is constant. It is unconditional.

Matthew 2:10 says that when the shepherds saw the star proclaiming the saviorโ€™s birth, โ€œthey rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.โ€

As Christians, we can share in this great joy. Joy does not refer to โ€œhappiness at all times.โ€ Happiness is fleeting, and depends on circumstances. There are many Christmases where it feels there is nothing to be happy about.

However, joy is something that comes from God. We experience joy because of what God has done for us, and is sustained by him. Only sin can remove joy from our lives.

Will you feel that kind of joy this Christmas? Are you able to rejoice exceedingly with great joy, not matter the circumstances?

Joy is available to all Christians. We can pray for it and acknowledge the Holy Spiritโ€™s presence in our lives. We need only ask for this kind of endless joy.

This Christmas, we pray that you experience the joy of the Lord in your life and are able to praise God for the many gifts he has given you. On behalf of HugotSeminarista, we wish you a merry Christmas!

CHURCH CELEBRATION | NOVEMBER 24, 2022
OUR LADY OF NAMACPACAN

According to the historical sketch done by Msgr. Quintin Velasquez, the image was ordered by the Augustinian friars of Vigan from Spain in 1871 but came to Luna accidentally. The galleon set sail to the Philippines heading toward Vigan and was caught in a storm off the coast of La Union. When the storm ended, they tried to continue their journey but the wind urged them to come back to the port. The captain decided to return to the port and have the statue delivered to Vigan by land.

When the statue was about to be transported to Vigan, the men could not remove the statue from its place. They took it as a signal that the image wanted to stay. It was negotiated upon by the Augustinian friars and Fr. Marcelino Ceballos that the image would stay in Namacpacan. They concluded that Our Blessed Lady must have chosen the town of Namacpacan as her sanctuary. A big feast marked the arrival of Our Lady in town. The townspeople came out in their best to meet it in the parish church, which came to be known as Our Lady of Namacpacan.

โ€ข Ang ๐˜ฟ๐™๐™‡๐™„๐˜ผ ay isang pagkilala at pagrespeto sa mga Santong namuhay sa kagustuhan ng Diyos;

โ€ข Ang ๐™‹๐™๐™Š๐™๐™Š๐˜ฟ๐™๐™‡๐™„๐˜ผ naman ang tawag sa pagbibigay respeto kay San Jose;

โ€ข Ang ikatlo namang terminolohiya, ang ๐™ƒ๐™”๐™‹๐™€๐™๐˜ฟ๐™๐™‡๐™„๐˜ผ, ay siyang tawag sa pagbibigay ng mataas na respeto sa Ina ng Diyos;
