Lectio Divina - Bible Diary 2026

Read: In the Gospel, Jesus appeared to the eleven disciples after His Resurrection and breathed on them the Holy Spirit. They received the initial power of the Spirit to forgive sins. When He ascended into heaven, His disciples and other followers were not left alone, as He also sent them the Spirit of the Father and the Son. The Acts of the Apostles’ reading tells us how the first Christians received the Holy Spirit. This Spirit imparts various gifts in the Church to form one body of Christ.

Reflect: The Spirit is God’s presence within us. With Him, we are never alone in confronting our weaknesses and difficulties. As we strive to lead good and honest lives, reach out to those in need, and make a difference in our family and community, we have the Spirit of the Father with us. Sometimes, we become so absorbed with our concerns that we forget the Father’s presence. The Holy Spirit instills hope amid significant challenges, reminding us that God is always there and will fulfill His promises to us.

Pray: Holy Spirit of God, you dwell within me. Let us face this day together. Guide me, inspire me, and strengthen me.

Act: See how you can help in building up your Christian community.

“Yes, Lord, paulit-ulit naming naalala kung gaano Mo kami kamahal dahil inialay Mo ang Iyong buhay upang kami ay mailigtas. Ang pag-ibig Mo’y wagas at dakila. Salamat po.”

Your will be done.

“Whatever you ask the Father in my name, He will give you.” I wish it were that simple: we ask and shall receive. It is relatively easy, at least when it comes to asking. However, waiting to receive what we have requested can be challenging, especially when what we seek is urgent or a matter of life and death. Indeed, many things we have asked God for have not resulted in the answers we anticipated. Yet, Jesus underscores the importance of asking. The act of asking itself is a concrete expression of faith. Initially, we ask so that our will may be done. But when we receive God’s response to our prayers, His will is fulfilled, provided we openly accept what He wishes to give us. So let us express our faith in Him today by humbly stating our petitions, and for whatever we receive in response to our prayers, let us say, “Your will be done, Lord, not mine.”

The mission to love God and his people.

There isn't much to say about Matthias, but one thing is certain: he was qualified to replace Judas as an Apostle. According to the first reading, the qualification was “to be someone who had accompanied the apostles during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among them.” This is what we celebrate about St. Matthias: his experience of being with Jesus. This is what made him holy. It's not only about being with the Lord, but also about witnessing that experience. Holiness involves not just that mystical, highly spiritual encounter with God; it also requires loving one another, as the Gospel reminds us today. Matthias was genuinely close to Jesus during his journey on earth, but that closeness must translate into the mission to love God and his people. May we all find inspiration today to translate our relationship with God into action, mission, and love for one another.

Jesus us the Spirit of Truth.

Bishop Robert Barron said, “Sometimes, we cling so tightly to what we think is true that when the truth, which we deeply desire, knocks upon our door, we refuse to open.” This is very true for many of us. We tend to hold onto what we want to believe is true. We cling strongly to our perceived truths, leaving no doors for other perspectives. However, this tendency of ours does not disappoint God. The Gospel reading reassures us. Jesus gives us the Spirit of Truth. We need this guidance to lead us to the truth. Like the disciples in the Gospel reading, we will take time to understand what is happening around us and how our faith addresses issues like fake news. Let us ask the Holy Spirit today to lead us to a proper understanding and guide us to the truth that will set us free.

Hello Monday!! 🥰

Karamihan sa atin can usually express our true emotions through music, lalo na kapag emotionally burdened tayo. Pero ito ang lagi nating tandaan bilang pangako ng Diyos:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
— The Gospel of Matthew 11:28

Salamat po Sr. Vicky, MCSH sa iyong magandang awitin.. 😇
