Marcoleta Caught Lying About His SOCE and SALN: A Test on INC’s Integrity for the Call for Transparency
When an influential political figure like Rodante Marcoleta is caught lying about something as fundamental as his Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) and his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), it is not just a personal scandal. It becomes a reflection of the institution that supports him.
Marcoleta is not just any politician. He is one of the most prominent public faces associated with the Iglesia ni Cristo’s political machinery. Such actions cast a shadow on INC’s public advocacy especially with their recently pulled off rally calling for transparency.
Thus, we ask the question, how credible is a call for transparency when a member of their community caught hiding or falsifying his own financial disclosures?
This is not about religious persecution. It is not about attacking a faith community. It is simply about consistency and integrity.
If INC rallies thousands demanding transparency then we expect them to be consistent even if it means denouncing their own supported individuals which they had done by the way in their recent rally. However, will their call for transparency become selective and will be silent if it is about someone of their own?
This moment is a test, not only of Marcoleta whose deception has already failed the test.
But of INC posturing to be a moral and political force, are they going to denounce dishonesty from within the circle? Will they call for the same transparency from Marcoleta that they demand from everyone else? Or will INC demonstrate that its principles are not conditional and its moral voice is not selective?
Because if transparency is truly the principle, then there should be no sacred cows, no exceptions, no exemptions, no excuses.
