Viva la Virgen!

The Nuestra Señora Virgen de Salvacion procession is not just a tradition, but a beautiful expression of faith, devotion, and unity. As the image of our beloved Mother passes through the streets, hearts are filled with hope, prayers, and thanksgiving.

Through every candle lit, every flower offered, and every prayer whispered, we are reminded that Mama Mary continues to guide and protect her children with her loving care.

May this sacred procession strengthen our faith, bring peace to every family, and inspire us to walk closer with God through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄?

The Philippines is often called “𝐏𝐮𝐞𝐛𝐥𝐨 𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚. ”which means “a people in love with Mary.” This beautiful title reflects the deep and enduring devotion of Filipinos to the Virgin Mary, a faith that has been passed on from generation to generation.

From the joyful celebration of Flores de Mayo every May, to the solemn prayers of the rosary, Marian processions, and the many churches and chapels dedicated in her honor, Mary holds a special place in the hearts of the Filipino people. She is seen not only as a mother of Christ, but also as a loving guide, protector, and intercessor in times of need.

This devotion is not just expressed through grand celebrations, but also in simple daily prayers, acts of kindness, and unwavering faith. Whether in times of joy or hardship, many Filipinos turn to Mama Mary for comfort and strength, trusting in her maternal care.

As we begin the Month of May, we are reminded of this unique identity—being a nation deeply rooted in faith and love for Mary. Like the flowers we offer, may our lives be a reflection of purity, humility, and devotion.

As the month of May unfolds and the landscape transforms with the vibrant colors of summer blooms, the Filipino people unite in a singular voice of devotion. Today, we celebrate Flores de Mayo, a cherished spiritual heritage that has defined our national character for generations.

This month-long observance is more than a mere display of pageantry; it is a profound expression of our identity as a people who find solace and inspiration in the Blessed Virgin Mary. From the humble daily flower offerings of our youth to the solemn recitation of the Rosary, Flores de Mayo serves as a spiritual bridge that connects our history with our present faith. 🌸✨

We honor Mary as the "Flower of Flowers," offering her not just the petals of the fields, but the fruits of our labor and the intentions of our hearts. As we witness the colorful processions and hear the echoes of ancient hymns, let us be reminded of the virtues of humility, purity, and grace that our Mother exemplifies.

May this season of Flores de Mayo bring a spiritual harvest to our families and communities. Let us continue to preserve this beautiful tradition, ensuring that the flame of devotion remains bright for the generations to come.

Did you know?

This is an old photo of the Nuestra Señora Virgen de Salvacion Chapel in Barangay Basud, San Isidro, Leyte. Long before, the chapel stood proudly—large and uniquely designed in the shape of a cross, symbolizing the deep faith of the community it served. It was not only a place of worship but also a center of unity, where people gathered for prayers, celebrations, and moments of hope.

Sadly, the chapel was destroyed during the devastating impact of Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda), one of the strongest storms ever to hit the Philippines. The typhoon left a lasting mark on the lives of many, taking away homes, livelihoods, and cherished landmarks like this chapel.

Yet, even in the face of such loss, the faith of the people of Basud remained unshaken. The memory of the old chapel continues to live in their hearts—not just as a structure that once stood, but as a symbol of strength, devotion, and togetherness. Through the years, the community has risen again, rebuilding not only their chapel but also their spirit, showing that true faith cannot be washed away by any storm.

Today, the story of the chapel serves as a reminder that even after the strongest trials, hope can rise again—stronger, deeper, and more united than before.

“𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭!”

Faith and devotion took center stage as the residents of Barangay Basud gathered at the Nuestra Señora Virgen de Salvacion Chapel to celebrate Palm Sunday. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Monsignor Venancio Sosing Jr., the Parish Priest of San Isidro Labrador Parish.

A highlight of the religious event was the solemn procession held throughout the front grounds of the chapel. Devotees lined the area, creating a sea of waved palm fronds as they reenacted the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The atmosphere within the chapel grounds was one of profound reverence and unity.

In his homily, Monsignor Sosing reminded the faithful that the "palaspas" is more than just a tradition; it is a commitment to let Christ reign in their lives. The procession in the chapel's courtyard served as a powerful visual testament to the community's enduring spirit, marking a prayerful and reflective start to the Holy Week.
