WHY A DIAMOND JUBILEE? The seventy-fifth anniversary is traditionally known as a Diamond Jubilee. The diamond has become the enduring symbol of this milestone because it represents qualities that aptly reflect a remarkable journey through time.

A diamond signifies endurance, having withstood the passage of years; purity, refined and made radiant; brilliance, reflecting light in every direction; and rarity, marking an exceptional milestone worthy of thanksgiving and celebration.

For the Diocese of Legazpi, the Diamond Jubilee is more than a commemoration of 75 years. It is a celebration of a local Church that has been refined through trials, sustained by God’s providence, and continues to shine as a witness to the Gospel.

The word jubilee comes from the biblical tradition found in Leviticus 25, where God established the Jubilee as a sacred time of thanksgiving, restoration, freedom, and renewal. In the Church, every Jubilee continues this biblical heritage by inviting the faithful to conversion, reconciliation, and a renewed commitment to the mission of Christ.

Thus, the term Diamond Jubilee brings together two profound meanings: the biblical celebration of God’s saving work and the enduring image of the diamond—a faith that has been tested, purified, and made radiant through the years.

As we celebrate our Diocesan Diamond Jubilee, we give thanks for God’s unfailing fidelity throughout our history and renew our commitment to continue the mission entrusted to us, journeying together as a Church that is Biniyayaan, Inaantabayan, asin Sinusugo.

Diocese of Legazpi invites faithful to opening of Diamond Jubilee celebrations on June 29

The Diocese of Legazpi, led by Bishop Joel Z. Baylon, is inviting all clergy, religious, and lay faithful to join the opening of the celebratory phase of its Diamond Jubilee on June 29, 2026, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.

The celebration marks the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Diocese of Legazpi and will officially begin the Jubilee Year under the theme “Biniyayaan, Inaantabayan, Sinusugo.”

In his circular, Bishop Baylon encouraged the faithful to participate in the historic celebration, saying, “May this celebration deepen our gratitude for the past, strengthen our communion in the present, and renew our commitment to the mission entrusted to our Diocese.”

The Diocese of Legazpi joins the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines in praying for our brothers and sisters affected by the Sarangani Earthquake.

In response to the CBCP’s appeal, a Second Collection will be taken in all Masses on Sunday, June 14, 2026, to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for the affected communities.

We invite the faithful to offer their prayers and generous assistance for the victims, their families, rescue workers, and all those involved in the ongoing response and recovery efforts.

MAHALIN ANG DIYOS, MAHALIN ANG BAYAN. Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

The Church teaches that “the love and service of one’s country belong to the order of charity” (CCC 2239). Patriotism, therefore, is not separate from our Christian life. We celebrate Independence Day not merely as citizens, but as disciples. And today, the Sacred Heart reminds us what that love should look like: humble, truthful, compassionate, and self-sacrificing.

To love God is also to seek the good of our neighbor and our nation. A faithful Catholic strives to be a good citizen.
