REFLECTION
Text: John 9:31
“We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.”

This statement was spoken by the man who had been healed from blindness as he defended Jesus before the Pharisees. Though he was not a trained religious leader, he understood an important spiritual truth: God responds to those who genuinely seek Him and desire to obey Him. His words exposed the hypocrisy of the religious leaders who claimed to know God yet rejected the very One sent by Him.

This verse does not mean that God never listens to sinners at all, because if that were true, no one could ever be saved. Scripture clearly shows that God hears the cry of repentance from sinners who come to Him humbly. Rather, the verse emphasizes that God does not approve of or respond favorably to those who continue in rebellion while pretending to seek Him. A person living in deliberate disobedience should not expect fellowship and blessing from God while refusing to submit to Him.

The phrase “God-fearing” describes a person who reverences God sincerely. True reverence for God is not merely outward religion or religious activity, but a heart that desires to honor and obey Him. Many people claim to know God, but their lives show no evidence of submission to His will. Genuine faith produces obedience.

This passage also reminds us that our relationship with God affects our prayer life. Sin that is cherished and unconfessed hinders fellowship with God. A believer cannot live carelessly in sin and expect spiritual closeness with Him. God desires sincerity, holiness, and obedience from His people.

Moreover, the healed man’s boldness teaches us the importance of standing for truth even in opposition. Though questioned and pressured by the Pharisees, he testified courageously about what God had done. A true encounter with Christ produces both transformation and boldness.

As believers, let us examine our hearts and walk before God with sincerity and reverence. May our lives reflect obedience to His will, and may we approach Him with humble hearts that desire to honor Him in all things.

My God Hears Me
2 Samuel 22:7

“In my distress I called to the Lord; I called out to my God. From His temple He heard my voice; my cry came to His ears.”

Sa verse na ito, makikita natin ang response ni David sa gitna ng distress—tumawag siya sa Panginoon. Maraming pinagdaanan si David sa buhay: mga kaaway, pagtataksil, at mga sitwasyong nagbabanta sa kanyang buhay. Pero imbes na umasa sa sariling lakas o matakot at tumakas, lumapit siya sa Diyos sa panalangin. Ang una niyang reaction ay hindi panic, kundi dependence sa Panginoon. Ipinapakita nito ang pusong tunay na nagtitiwala sa Diyos sa bawat sitwasyon.

Pinapaalala rin nito na ang Diyos ay hindi malayo o walang pakialam sa ating pinagdadaanan. Malinaw na sinasabi na “narinig” (He heard) ng Diyos ang kanyang tinig at ang kanyang daing ay umabot sa Kanyang pandinig. Ibig sabihin, bawat panalangin, bawat iyak, at bawat dinadala natin sa Diyos ay napapansin Niya. Minsan pakiramdam natin tahimik ang Diyos o malayo Siya, lalo na sa panahon ng hirap, pero pinapatunayan ng passage na ito na nakikinig Siya. Attentive ang Diyos sa panalangin ng Kanyang mga anak.

Ipinapakita rin na ang distress ay nagre-reveal kung saan talaga nakalagay ang tiwala natin. Kapag may problema, saan tayo tumatakbo? Marami ang umaasa sa sariling paraan, sa ibang tao, o sa distractions para takasan ang problema. Pero itinuturo ni David na ang tamang response ay tumawag sa Diyos.

Ipinapakita rin ng verse ang personal na relasyon ni David sa Diyos. Sinabi niya, “my God,” na nagpapakita ng closeness at confidence. Hindi nagduda si David kung maririnig siya ng Diyos; sigurado siya dahil sa relasyon niya sa Kanya. Bilang believers, inaanyayahan din tayo na magkaroon ng ganitong confidence—na ang Diyos ay nagmamalasakit at nakikinig kapag tayo ay tumatawag.

Bilang mga tagasunod ng Diyos, kailangan nating matutong umasa sa Kanya lalo na sa panahon ng problema. Sa halip na ma-overwhelm sa distress, hayaan natin itong maglapit sa atin sa Diyos. Kapag tayo ay tumawag sa Kanya, makakatiyak tayo na naririnig Niya tayo at kikilos Siya ayon sa Kanyang perpektong kalooban.

Let’s Pray

Panginoon, sa gitna ng aming mga pinagdadaanan, tulungan Mo kaming laging lumapit sa Iyo. Kapag kami ay natatakot o nanghihina, ipaalala Mo sa amin na naririnig Mo ang bawat daing namin. Bigyan Mo kami ng pusong nagtitiwala at hindi madaling madala ng takot. Turuan Mo kaming umasa sa Iyo sa lahat ng oras. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!

When You Could, But You Shouldn’t
Text: 1 Samuel 26:13–16 (read the passage)

Tumayo si David sa malayo matapos niyang iligtas muli ang buhay ni Saul sa pangalawang pagkakataon. Habang natutulog si Saul at ang kanyang mga tauhan, may perfect opportunity si David na patayin ang hari na matagal nang humahabol sa kanya. Pero pinili niya ang magpakita ng awa at pagpipigil. Kinuha lang niya ang spear at water jug ni Saul, pagkatapos pumunta siya sa ligtas na lugar at tinawag si Abner, at kinompronta ito dahil sa kabiguang bantayan ang hari.

Ipinapakita ng actions ni David ang pusong nagbibigay-honor sa Diyos higit sa personal revenge. Hindi niya inilagay ang sitwasyon sa sarili niyang kamay, kahit nasa harapan na niya ang pagkakataon. Sa pananaw ng tao, madaling i-justify ang pagpatay kay Saul. Pero naintindihan ni David na si Saul pa din ay “the Lord’s anointed,” at nagtiwala siya na ang Diyos ang kikilos sa tamang panahon tungkol sa kanyang kamalian.

Ang desisyon ni David ay nagpapakita ng tunay na lakas, hindi kahinaan. Ang hindi niya pananakit kay Saul ay hindi dahil hindi niya kaya, kundi dahil ayaw niyang magkasala laban sa Diyos.

Para sa atin ngayon, hamon ito kung paano tayo tutugon kapag nasasaktan o inaapi. Kapag may taong nakakasakit sa atin, natural na gusto nating gumanti o maghanap ng sariling justice. Pero tulad ni David, tinatawag tayong magtiwala sa Diyos, mamuhay nang may integrity, at ipaubaya sa Kanya ang paghahatol (Deuteronomy 32:35, Romans 12:19, Hebrews 10:30).

Pwede sanang tapusin ni David ang problema niya sa isang iglap, pero pinili niyang i-honor ang Diyos. Nawa magkaroon tayo ng ganitong klaseng puso—isang pusong sumusunod, nagtitiwala, at gumagawa ng tama, kahit may pagkakataon tayong gawin ang kabaligtaran.

Obedience is Better than Sacrifice
1 Samuel 15:22

22 Pero sumagot si Samuel, “Mas nalulugod ba ang Panginoon sa mga handog ninyo kaysa sa pagsunod sa kanya? Ang pagsunod sa Panginoon ay mas mabuti kaysa sa mga handog. Ang pakikinig sa kanya ay mas mabuti kaysa sa paghahandog ng mga taba ng tupa.

Sa passage na ito, muling nag-fail si King Saul sa Panginoon. Inutusan siya ng Diyos na lubusang lipulin ang mga Amalekites, pero pinili niyang iligtas si King Agag at itira ang pinakamagagandang hayop. Nang siya ay kinompronta, jinustify ni Saul ang kanyang ginawa sa pagsasabing para raw ito sa sacrifice sa Panginoon. Sa panlabas, mukhang spiritual—pero sa totoo, disobedience ito.

Malinaw at diretso ang sagot ni Samuel: mas mahalaga sa Diyos ang obedience kaysa sacrifice. Walang religious act, offering, o service ang pwedeng pumalit sa simple at buong pagsunod sa Salita ng Diyos. Akala ni Saul pwede niyang i-compensate ang kanyang disobedience sa pamamagitan ng sacrifice, pero nireject ito ng Diyos dahil mali ang puso niya.

Ipinapakita nito ang isang danger na present pa rin hanggang ngayon. Posible na maging active sa ministry, nagbibigay ng offerings, at gumagawa ng religious duties, pero namumuhay pa rin sa disobedience. Minsan, tinatakpan ng tao ang maling choices sa pamamagitan ng paggawa ng “good” para sa Diyos. Pero hindi naloloko ang Diyos. Hindi lang Siya tumitingin sa actions—tinitingnan Niya ang puso.

Ang obedience ang nagpapakita ng tunay na pag-ibig at submission sa Diyos. Kailangan nito ng humility, dahil isinasantabi natin ang sariling plano para sundin ang kalooban Niya nang buo. Ang sacrifice naman minsan mas madali—pwedeng gawin sa panlabas nang hindi binabago ang puso. Kaya nga binibigyang-diin ng Diyos ang obedience higit sa lahat.

Hinahamon tayo ng verse na ito na suriin ang ating buhay. Sumusunod ba tayo sa Diyos nang buo, o gumagawa tayo ng excuses tulad ni Saul? Pinapalitan ba natin ang obedience ng activity? Hindi naghahanap ang Diyos ng impressive works—hinahanap Niya ay mga pusong tapat na nakikinig at sumusunod.

Nawa hindi natin ulitin ang pagkakamali ni Saul, kundi piliin nating makinig, magpasakop, at sumunod sa Panginoon nang buo.

No Room for Pride
Text: 1 Samuel 2:3

“Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.”

Ang verse na ito ay bahagi ng panalangin ni Hannah matapos sagutin ng Diyos ang kanyang kahilingan na magkaroon ng anak. Naranasan niya ang matinding kalungkutan at pangmamaliit ng iba. Pero nung kumilos ang Diyos at ibinigay sa kanya si Samuel, nagbago ang kanyang pananaw. Imbes na itaas ang sarili niya, itinaas niya ang Panginoon. Nagbigay siya ng babala laban sa pride at arrogance dahil alam niya na nakikita ng Diyos ang lahat.

Madalas, lumalabas ang pride sa paraan ng pananalita natin. Kapag ang tao feeling superior, makikita ito sa kanyang mga salita—nagyayabang ng achievements, minamaliit ang iba, o nagsasalita na parang siya ang may control sa lahat. Pero pinaaalalahanan tayo ni Hannah na naririnig ng Diyos ang bawat salita. Walang nakakalusot sa Kanyang kaalaman. Hindi lang Niya alam kung ano ang sinasabi natin, kundi pati ang intensyon sa likod nito.Sinasabi rin ng verse na ang Diyos ang tumitimbang ng ating mga gawa. Ibig sabihin, hindi Siya tumitingin sa panlabas na anyo kundi sa katotohanan. Maaaring ma-impress ang tao sa salita at image natin, pero ang Diyos sinusukat ang puso. Nakikita Niya kung ang ginagawa natin ay may humility o may pride, may sincerity o may hypocrisy.

This is a strong warning for us today. Posible na magmukhang spiritual, active, o successful, pero puno pala ng pride sa loob. Pero sa harap ng Diyos, walang nakatago. Ang ating mga salita, motibo, at gawa ay sinusuri Niya. Hindi ito para takutin tayo sa maling paraan, kundi para turuan tayong mamuhay nang maingat at may kababaang-loob sa Kanya.

Ibig sabihin nito, maging maingat tayo sa ating pananalita, iwasan ang pagyayabang, at ibigay ang credit sa Diyos sa bawat biyaya. Regular nating i-check ang ating puso—tanungin ang sarili kung nagse-serve ba tayo para sa glory ng Diyos o para sa sariling recognition.

Ang tunay na humility makikita kapag ina-acknowledge natin na lahat ng meron tayo ay galing sa Panginoon.

Stand Up and Deal with Sin
Text: Joshua 7:10–13

“Get up! Command the people to purify themselves in preparation for tomorrow. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Hidden among you, O Israel, are things set apart for the Lord. You will never defeat your enemies until you remove these things from among you.” - Joshua 7:13 (NLT)

This passage comes after Israel’s unexpected defeat at Ai. Joshua fell before the Lord in confusion and grief, wondering why God allowed them to fail. But God’s answer was direct—Israel’s problem was not strategy, but sin. Someone had disobeyed God by taking what was devoted, and because of that hidden sin, the entire nation suffered defeat.

This moment teaches us that sin, even when hidden, has serious consequences. Achan’s disobedience was done in secret, but it affected the whole community. God made it clear that His presence would not remain with them unless the sin was dealt with. Victory was not possible while sin was tolerated.

God’s response to Joshua is: “Get up!” While prayer is important, there are times when action is required. Joshua was mourning, but God called him to address the real issue. Instead of remaining in sorrow, he needed to confront the sin and lead the people toward repentance and cleansing.

This passage reminds us that spiritual defeat is connected to unconfessed sin. We may pray for success, guidance, or blessing, but if there is sin we are holding onto, it hinders our victory.
We see God’s desire for holiness among His people. He commanded them to consecrate themselves, to be set apart and cleansed. God’s presence and blessing are closely tied to a life that seeks holiness.

This passage challenges us to examine our lives honestly. Are there hidden sins that we are ignoring or excusing? Instead of covering them up, we must bring them before God, confess them, and turn away from them. True victory comes when we deal with sin seriously.

God calls His people not only to seek Him but to walk in purity before Him. May we respond with humility, repentance, and obedience, so that we can experience His presence and power in our lives.

Choose Life

Text: Deuteronomy 30:19–20 (NKJV)

19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days.

In this passage, Moses gave a powerful and final appeal to the people of Israel. After laying out God’s commands, blessings, and warnings, he presented them with a clear choice—life or death, blessing or curse. This was not just a general statement but a serious call to decision. Their future would depend on how they responded to God.
The command “choose life” shows that following God is not automatic. It requires a deliberate and personal decision. God, in His grace, laid out the right path, but the people had to choose whether they would walk in it. Life is found in loving God, obeying His voice, and remaining faithful to Him.
This passage reminds us that our choices have real consequences. Obedience leads to blessing and life, while disobedience leads to destruction. Sometimes people think their decisions are small or insignificant, but over time, these choices shape the direction of their lives.

Choosing life also means choosing a relationship with God. Moses connected life with loving the Lord, listening to His voice, and holding fast to Him. It is not merely about following rules but about a committed relationship with God that is expressed through obedience.

The mention of future generations also shows that our decisions affect others. The choices we make today can influence our family, our children, and those around us. A life that follows God becomes a testimony that leads others toward Him.

In the New Testament, this call to choose life finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. He is the source of true life, and through Him we receive eternal life. To choose life today means to trust in Christ, follow Him, and remain faithful to His Word.

This passage challenges us to examine our daily decisions. Are we choosing what honors God, or are we drifting toward compromise? Choosing life is a daily commitment to love, obey, and cling to the Lord.

God has clearly shown the way. May we respond with faith and obedience, choosing life so that we may truly live in His presence and blessing.
