A jubilant atmosphere encompassed the parish as it welcomed the Miraculous Patroness of Kawit, CaviteโSanta Maria Magdalena de Kawit on February 28, 2026, Saturday. The Lakbay Paraluman is a sacred pilgrimage initiated by the imageโs diocesan shrine and parish with the purpose of spreading the good news of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
The word paraluman is a Filipino word which directly translates to โmuseโ or โbeautiful lady.โ In this context, it is used to describe St. Mary Magdalene as a captivating woman and devoted follower of The Messiah. With that being said, her image is greatly venerated because Emilio Aguinaldo, first President of the Philippines, which presided in Kawit, Cavite honored her image through naming his group after her and offering it to her, placing it under her patronage.
The wooden image itself depicts St. Mary Magdalene, with her left hand holding a cross representing her major role in Jesusโ crucifixion & resurrection, and her right hand holding an alabaster jar of perfumeโsymbolizing the biblical event wherein she anointed His feet (Lk 7:38). Another noticeable aspect of her image is the mole in the middle of her forehead; while the history of this mark is not confirmed, it is believed to be the mark left by Jesus after His resurrection when He placed His fingertip on her forehead and said โTouch me notโ (John 20:17).
As the image departed from Nuestra Seรฑora de Regla, parishioners and ministers of Christ danced along with her image as a vibrant and jovial pronouncement of faith and devotion. Let us reflect on this pilgrimage as a way of knowing more of the Gospel through the veneration of saints and living a life like theirsโguided by Christ.
