"Last, last weekend, we had our Master Guide training. Due to some scheduling conflicts, we finally met with two MGs who generously shared their valuable insights with the aspirants.
MG Jikko Formentera shared valuable insights on several key topics, including Bible Marking, Marching, Drilling, and Knot Tying.
Bible Marking is an important activity that helps individuals better understand and apply the teachings of the Bible. It involves highlighting or underlining specific verses or passages, often using different colors or symbols, to indicate themes, key lessons, or important topics. This practice encourages a deeper connection with God’s Word and aids in memorization, reflection, and spiritual growth.
Marching and Drilling are essential activities that emphasize discipline, teamwork, and precision. These activities involve learning and practicing military-style drills, which include specific formations, commands, and synchronized movements.
Knot Tying is another important skill taught in Master Guide training. It involves learning how to tie various knots that are useful in outdoor activities, such as camping, hiking, and rescue operations. Knot tying teaches us practical skills, resourcefulness, and attention to detail. Master Guides are trained to tie knots for securing tents, building shelters, and other survival situations. It also emphasizes the importance of patience and precision, as each knot must be tied correctly for it to be reliable in real-life scenarios.
Marching teaches Master Guides the importance of order, coordination, and following instructions. It helps develop rhythm, timing, and attention to detail as participants march in unison, maintaining proper posture and alignment.
Drilling goes beyond marching, focusing on executing commands swiftly and accurately, often involving complex movements and transitions. This activity enhances leadership skills, teamwork, and respect for authority, as participants learn to work together harmoniously and with precision.
Orienteering was introduced by MG Rhenz Vhea Cimafranca, who taught us the essentials of navigating the outdoors. Orienteering requires proficiency in reading and interpreting topographic maps, using a compass, and understanding geographical features.
Master Guides learn to:
Read Topographic Maps: Understanding contour lines, terrain features, scale, and map symbols.
Use a Compass: Master Guides are trained in how to use a compass to orient themselves, set bearings, and navigate to specific locations.
Track Your Position: Techniques for determining your current location using landmarks and pacing.
This training equipped us with the skills to navigate and explore the outdoors with confidence.
A big thank you to MG Jikko Formentera and MG Rhenz Vhea Cimafranca for sharing their invaluable knowledge with the Master Guide Aspirants. We look forward to applying these teachings as we continue our journey toward becoming Master Guides."
