Throughout human history, lavish romances have taken place, but the most expensive of all took place just decades ago. It was the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1981. The wedding cost 110 million dollars or 6 billion pesos. Princess Diana’s wedding gown alone, made of 10,000 pearls, cost 115,000 dollars.
However, the royal couple’s marriage only lasted 15 years. They divorced in 1996 after years of infidelity from both sides.
This is incomparable to that which stands above all, for in all eternity, the most glorious and expensive wedding is the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. 6 billion pesos does not come close to the price paid. Only but the precious life of the second Person of the Godhead, Jesus Christ. The darling of heaven crucified for us.
Our wedding gown will not be covered by a mere 10,000 pearls, but by the righteousness of Christ.
We know this is based on God’s initiative, because the Bible is full of romance, it's a story of a father looking for a bride for his son. For “it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— (Revelation 19:8)
And at the same time, our good works will be our joyful response to God, “for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.” (Rev. 19:8b)
At the final consummation or The Marriage Supper of the Lamb, our good works will be our beautiful gown purchased by the blood of our husband. As G.K Beale says, “justification is the causal necessary condition for entrance into the eternal kingdom, but good works are a noncausal necessary condition.”
