Propaedeutic Stage VIII - The Juans
As we approach the advent of a new shepherd, a dawn of a new pastoral journey unfolds. As seminarians, we stand in hope, ready to sojourn with the Church of Kalibo under his care. A journey that hopes to draw us deeper into communion, service, and faithful witness to Christ, the Good Shepherd.

In this moment of grace for our local Church, I find myself filled with gratitude as I pause before God. It is not every day that we witness a new Shepherd being given to the flock, and I feel that the Lord is gently reminding us that He has never abandoned His people. Even in times of waiting, He has been quietly preparing both the shepherd and the flock for this new beginning.
Personally, I feel a quiet yet deep joy, mixed with hope and a sense of sacred responsibility. Welcoming a new bishop is like opening a new chapter in the life of our diocese. For many years, we have been guided by our previous shepherds, and now the Holy Father has appointed Rev. Fr. Cyril B. Villareal as the 5th Bishop of the Diocese of Kalibo. He comes to us as a priest who has served faithfully in the Archdiocese of Capiz. Knowing that he is a man formed in prayer, study, and close pastoral service gives me confidence that he will lead us with the heart of Christ the Good Shepherd.
As a community, we are also reminded of our commitment to become a vibrant and missionary diocese, centered on Christ and devoted to the Santo Niรฑo, our beloved patron.
As a seminarian, this moment inspires me to reflect more deeply on my vocation. Seeing a new bishop begin his ministry reminds me that the priesthood is not only a calling, but a lifelong journey of service to God and His people. It challenges me and my fellow seminarians to grow in prayer, humility, discipline, and love for the Church, so that one day we may truly serve with the heart of Christ. In welcoming our new bishop, we are also called to renew our dedication to formation and to prepare ourselves generously for the mission that the Lord entrusts to us.
I pray that Bishop-elect Cyril will find in us not only a welcoming community, but a true family of faith ready to walk with him in communion and mission. May the Lord grant him wisdom, strength, humility, and joy as he takes up the crosier to shepherd the flock in Kalibo. And may we, especially we seminarians, remain faithful in our formation, so that we may serve the Church with reverent love and help build the Kingdom of God in our beloved province of Aklan, together with our shepherd in Christ. May this new chapter in our diocese strengthen our unity in faith and deepen our love for the Church.
