📖 Matthew 27:32-56 (NASB)
𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
Matthew 27:32-56 tells us the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and death. People heaped insults on Him, even the rebels who were crucified with Him. At about three in the afternoon, when Jesus cried out in a loud voice for the second time, He gave up His spirit.
At that moment, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
It is easy to be emotionally moved by the process Jesus went through before dying on the cross. He was mocked. He was in so much pain. He was forsaken. And he endured all of these for one reason - to fulfill the reason why He was sent. To satisfy what was written.
Jesus put aside His being God only to be with us, to be one of us, to die in our place. He died on the cross so that we could be forgiven and healed. So that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
Jesus could have just avoided or even prevented all of that suffering to happen. He is God. Anyone who knows that devastating events lie ahead of Him could easily move away from that path, but not Jesus. He knew His very purpose. And He was determined to do it. His desire is to save mankind, express the love of the Father, and triumph over the devil.
Jesus gave up His spirit to tear the veil that’s preventing us from coming to the Father. His blood is the reason why we can now freely and directly enter the presence of God.
Friends, Jesus did not run away from His call. He gave His life so we could have ours. May we never forget this and may we keep on running the race that is set before us. Just like Jesus.
