In places like the Philippines, fishers provide a vital nutritional lifeline, supplying 12% of the nation's protein intake. But beyond feeding us, they are true protectors of nature, practicing deep ecological stewardship like the Visayan philosophy of pagbulig sa tawo sa kinaiyahan to let our oceans heal.

As global aquaculture officially surpasses wild capture fisheries, our small-scale fishers are navigating massive tides of change. We can't let them weather the storm alone.

In arguments, most people say, “read between the lines” or “look at the other side of the door”. But in the case of our Irrawaddy dolphins, they would probably say, “look at the bottom of the bridge.”

Irrawaddy dolphins are endangered marine mammals who serve as a crucial indicator for marine balance, helping maintain a healthy ecosystem as a keystone predator. Constructing a bridge above their homes not only can cause severe noise pollution to their delicate ears but also overlap directly with coastal estuaries and mangroves, resulting in loss of habitat.

They say bridges help connect the lands and the lives of people. But can you really walk on a bridge while carrying the weight of conscience, knowing there are other lives being compensated for in its construction? Only one way to find out —

In this era where the lands and waters of the Philippines are infested with bullets, the safety of the Filipino people continues to rely on the laws of our country. These mere writings on paper dictate not only the maintenance of our social order, but also the lives of our people. However, the system has not progressed together with the needs of our generation as flaws continue to serve blood and injustice.

With the deaths of our own kind continuing to be an outlier in our government’s moral definition of human rights, what will the future of our country become? Only one way to find out —

‎As these fish species are well-known apex predators and are important for a balanced marine ecosystem, changes in tuna populations often signal broader problems like overfishing or ecosystem imbalance.

‎On every 𝟐𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒂𝒚, we celebrate World Tuna Day, created by the United Nations in 2016 to highlight its vital role in the oceanic ecosystem and human livelihood, as well as to raise awareness regarding its conservation and management.

‎Despite the sustainability of our tuna, its population can't keep up with the continuous demand for human consumption, leading to overexploitation and overfishing that puts risk to the balance of our marine ecosystems. As guardians of our aquatic resources, this calls for action beyond awareness and towards sustainable fishing practices, active management, and protection.

‎Together, let us continue to demand sustainability over our tuna, safeguarding resources for generations to come.

AI has gone beyond just being another internet quirk— it has become so powerful that it has shifted how our modern society works, and we can see it in real-time with how its existence is reshaping the job market itself. Roles are evolving and professionals are now competing not only with each other, but with workflows powered by AI. The advantage no longer belongs to who knows the most, but to who knows how to work smarter, adapt faster, and stay relevant in an AI-driven landscape.

At the same time, in the world of research and academe, AI brings a new dilemma: increased productivity versus compromised academic integrity. Where do we draw the line between assistance and overreliance? How do we use AI responsibly without sacrificing originality, ethics, and credibility? This webinar, "Professional Readiness in the AI Era and the Responsible Use of AI in Research", unpacks these questions and equips you with practical guidance for navigating the riptides of the coursing changes brought by AI.

Nagsilbi si Alyssa bilang konsehal ng UP Diliman University Student council at tagapangulo ng League of Filipino Student - UP Diliman.
