Maraming tao ang nakakarinig ng Word of God. We can attend church, listen to sermons, join Bible studies, highlight verses, and even explain Scripture to others.
But there is a difference between knowing what God says and allowing what God says to shape the way we live.
James gives us this warning:
📖 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
— James 1:22
The danger is not always that we reject God’s Word. Sometimes, we agree with it but stop before obedience.
We know we should forgive, pero pinipili pa rin nating kumapit sa galit.
We know we should speak with grace, pero kapag nasaktan tayo, gusto pa rin nating gumanti.
We know God calls us to integrity, pero kapag obedience becomes costly, doon tayo natutuksong mag-compromise.
We know we should trust God, pero kapag iba ang direction Niya sa plano natin, nahihirapan tayong sumunod.
Because hearing informs us, but obedience reveals whether we are willing to submit to what we have heard.
Jesus Himself asked:
📖 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”
— Luke 6:46
Calling Jesus “Lord” is more than knowing the right Christian words. Lordship means recognizing His rightful authority over our lives.
Pero hindi rin ibig sabihin na ang tunay na follower ni Christ ay perfectly obedient. We still stumble, struggle, repent, and grow. And obedience is not how we earn salvation. We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9).
But the grace that saves us also begins to transform the way we live.
Kaya habang lumalalim ang pagkakilala natin kay Christ, hindi lang dapat dumadami ang alam natin tungkol sa Kanya. Dapat mas natututo rin tayong magtiwala, magpasakop, at sumunod sa Kanya.
At the end of the day, the question is not only:
“How much of God’s Word have I heard?”
But also:
“How much of what God has already shown me am I willing to obey?”
Because God’s Word was never given merely to fill our minds with truth. It was given to lead us to Christ and, by His grace, shape the way we live.
