𝗦𝘁. 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘆, 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽

𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆: 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟳 (in the Roman Catholic Church)
𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲: Apostle to the English; First Archbishop of Canterbury

𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

St. Augustine of Canterbury was a Roman monk and missionary who became the first Archbishop of Canterbury and is often called the "Apostle to the English." Sent by Pope St. Gregory the Great in 597 AD, Augustine played a crucial role in the Christianization of Anglo-Saxon England.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀:

• 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱: Augustine was the prior of a Roman monastery when Pope Gregory the Great chose him to lead a mission to convert the Anglo-Saxons. Though initially daunted by the journey and the mission's prospects, Augustine ultimately continued and arrived in Kent with about 40 monks.

• 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁: Augustine landed in Kent, where King Ethelbert—who had a Christian wife, Queen Bertha of Frankish origin—allowed the missionaries to preach. Ethelbert converted and was baptized, leading many of his subjects to embrace Christianity.

• 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱: Augustine founded the See of Canterbury and became its first archbishop. He restored and built churches, including a monastery in Canterbury (later St. Augustine's Abbey).

• 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆: Augustine's mission laid the groundwork for the widespread conversion of England. Though his attempts to unify the Roman and Celtic Christian practices met resistance, his influence endured.

Leading with Faith: Zone 5 youth representing at the Parish Youth Leadership and Formation Seminar! 🔥

The vibrant youth members of Zone 5 actively participated in the Parish Youth Leadership and Formation Seminar conducted on May 15-17, 2026 and today, May 17 is the last day of activity where they attended the Holy Mass.

This activity was filled with profound reflections, team-building, and spiritual growth leading with a vibrant speakers.

Our young leaders immersed themselves in learning how to serve the church and the community with humility, passion, and faith.

We are immensely proud of your dedication to growing your leadership skills. Keep shining, Zone 5!
