St. Augustine of Canterbury was a Roman monk and missionary who became the first Archbishop of Canterbury and is often called the "Apostle to the English." Sent by Pope St. Gregory the Great in 597 AD, Augustine played a crucial role in the Christianization of Anglo-Saxon England.
