OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF CONDEMNATION
The Darul Ifta XI and the Muslim community leaders of Davao City strongly condemn the recent shooting incident in Australia, which resulted in the loss of life, injuries, and widespread fear. We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and the broader community affected by this tragic event.
The Muslim community affirms that any form of violence, terrorism, or extremism has no place in Islam. Islam is a religion of peace, mercy, and protect the sanctity of human life. The teachings of the Qurโan and the Sunnah are unequivocal: the taking of innocent lives is a grave sin and is absolutely prohibited (haram) in Islam.
We categorically reject and condemn any attempt to associate Islam and the Muslim community with acts of terrorism. Such acts are contrary to the true spirit and values of Islam and in no way represent the faith or principles upheld by Muslims worldwide.
For the information of the public, it is respectfully noted that the individual who bravely intervened and subdued the perpetrator in the shooting incident in Australia was a Muslim, reflecting the values of courage, responsibility, and respect for human life upheld within the Muslim community.
In this context, the Darul Ifta XI and the Muslim community leaders of Davao City appeal to all Filipinos to exercise caution, fairness, and responsibility in interpreting events, and to refrain from linking the alleged perpetrators to Davao City or to any religious leaders and institutions in the city without clear, official, and credible evidence. The careless dissemination of rumors or misinformation may lead to misunderstanding.
It is likewise important to note that Davao City has established a culture of security, adopted by the City Government of Davao as a proactive measure to safeguard the community against activities that may endanger public safety.
The Muslim community of Davao City calls upon all sectors of society
