Cardinal Josรฉ Advincula has called for a deeper response to school violence, saying that security measures alone are not enough to address the challenges faced by young people.
Following a recent school shooting, Cardinal Advincula urged society not to allow such incidents to simply โpassโ without seriously examining the conditions affecting children and young people.
His call goes beyond questions of safety and security. He emphasized the need for families, schools, communities, and institutions to work together in supporting young people and creating environments where they can grow with hope, guidance, and a sense of belonging.
Cardinal Advincula also stressed the importance of listening to the concerns of young people and responding to the deeper struggles they may face. Preventing violence, he said, requires more than responding after tragedy happens. It also calls for building communities where young people are valued, supported, and cared for.
For the Church, this is also a call to strengthen its presence among the young and to accompany them with compassion, faith, and hope.
Beyond security, Cardinal Advinculaโs message is a call to action: to listen, to accompany, and to build communities where every young person can find hope and a future.
