Please be informed that there will be no 5:15 PM Holy Mass at the Metropolitan Cathedral and Parish of the Conversion of St. Paul (Vigan Cathedral) tomorrow, July 21, 2026, to give way to the final preparations for the 75th Diamond Jubilee of the elevation of the Diocese of Nueva Segovia into an Archdiocese.

The faithful are warmly invited to participate in the Pontifical Eucharistic Celebration on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 9:00 AM, as we offer our grateful thanksgiving to God for this historic milestone in the life and mission of our Archdiocese.

Together, let us celebrate this grace-filled occasion with joyful hearts, united in faith and communion as one Church.

A logo is more than a symbol—it tells a story. As we prepare to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, our official jubilee logo beautifully captures the grace of God’s abiding presence throughout our seventy-five years as a Metropolitan Archdiocese.

The prominent “75” marks this historic milestone, while the Cross, crowned with the flame of the Holy Spirit, reminds us that Christ has always been at the center of our journey, continually enlivening the Church with His Spirit. The outstretched hand symbolizes God’s providence, sustaining and guiding the Archdiocese through every generation. Flowing from the hand is an image reminiscent of living water, recalling the abundant graces God has poured upon His people and the life that continues to flow from the Gospel into our communities.

The Jubilee theme, “Gifted with Faith, Hope and Charity,” invites us to look back with gratitude and forward with confidence. These three theological virtues have shaped the life of the Archdiocese since its elevation as a Metropolitan See in 1951. Faith has kept us steadfast in Christ. Hope has sustained us through every challenge. Charity has inspired generations of bishops, priests, religious, and lay faithful to serve God and neighbor with generous hearts.

As we stand on the threshold of this historic celebration, may we renew our commitment to carry these gifts into the future, so that the Church of Nueva Segovia may continue to proclaim Christ with joy for generations to come.

With hearts dedicated to stewardship and service, parishioners led by the Ministry of Ecology intensified the general cleaning of the parish complex in preparation for the 75th Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, to be held from July 20–22, 2026.

As we welcome the clergy from across Northern Luzon, together with lay faithful and distinguished guests, may our shared efforts reflect not only the cleanliness of our surroundings but also the warmth of our hospitality and the readiness of our hearts to celebrate this historic milestone in faith, unity, and thanksgiving.

The Ecclesiastical Province of Nueva Segovia stands as a testament to the remarkable growth of the Church in Northern Luzon. From the vast Diocese of Nueva Segovia established in 1595, new local Churches gradually emerged to respond to the pastoral needs of the faithful. Today, the Metropolitan Province is composed of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia and its suffragan dioceses of Laoag, Bangued, and Baguio, together with the Apostolic Vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe.

These local Churches are shepherded by Most Rev. Renato P. Mayugba, D.D. (Diocese of Laoag), Most Rev. Rafael T. Cruz, D.D. (Diocese of Bangued), Most Rev. Rafael T. Cruz, D.D. (Diocese of Baguio), and Most Rev. Valentin C. Dimoc, D.D. (Apostolic Vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe). United with Most Rev. David William V. Antonio, D.D., Metropolitan Archbishop of Nueva Segovia, they work together in fostering communion, coordinating pastoral initiatives, and strengthening the Church’s mission throughout Northern Luzon. While each local Church is governed by its own bishop, all remain united in faith and mission under the bonds of the metropolitan province.

As we celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, we also celebrate this communion of Churches—a living expression of the Church journeying together in faith, hope, and charity.

3 DAYS TO GO

Seventy-five years ago, the Church in Northern Luzon entered a new chapter in her long and rich history. On July 21, 1951, Pope Venerable Pius XII elevated the Diocese of Nueva Segovia to the rank of a Metropolitan Archdiocese through the Apostolic Constitution Quo in Philippina Republica. On the following day, July 22, 1951, the decree took effect, and Most Rev. Santiago C. Sancho, D.D., then Bishop of Nueva Segovia, became its first Metropolitan Archbishop.

This historic event recognized the enduring faith of the people of Ilocandia and entrusted Nueva Segovia with the responsibility of shepherding the dioceses of Northern Luzon as a metropolitan see. For seventy-five years, the Archdiocese has remained steadfast in proclaiming the Gospel, fostering priestly and religious vocations, and forming generations of faithful disciples of Christ.

As we prepare to celebrate this Diamond Jubilee, let us give thanks for the countless bishops, priests, religious, and lay faithful who have built this local Church through their faith, sacrifice, and missionary zeal.

Beyond every bishop is a flock entrusted to his care. Soon, Most Rev. Nick A. Vaquilar, S.Th.D., D.D. will begin his episcopal ministry as the Fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Urdaneta, a local Church canonically erected on January 12, 1985, serving the faithful of Eastern Pangasinan under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception.

As Bishop Nick leaves his beloved Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia to embrace this new mission, we commend him to the prayers of God’s people. May the Lord grant him the grace to shepherd the Diocese of Urdaneta with the wisdom of a teacher, the heart of a father, and the zeal of a faithful servant of Christ.

We also invite everyone to pray for and witness his Canonical Installation as the Fourth Bishop of Urdaneta:

The Church rejoices as the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia prepares to celebrate the Episcopal Ordination of Most Rev. Nick A. Vaquilar, S.Th.D., D.D., who has been appointed by the Holy Father Pope Leo XIV as the Fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Urdaneta.

A son of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, Bishop-elect Nick has faithfully served the Church in various pastoral and administrative ministries, the latest being the Rector of Immaculate Conception School of Theology, the Regional Theology Seminary for Northern Luzon. Marked by humility, zeal, and a deep love for God’s people, he brings to the episcopal ministry not only a wealth of pastoral experience but also sound theological formation, ready to shepherd the faithful with wisdom, compassion, and fidelity to the Gospel.

Let us accompany Bishop-elect Nick with our prayers as he prepares to receive the fullness of the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Ecology of the Metropolitan Cathedral and Parish of the Conversion of St. Paul led a General Cleaning Activity at the frontage of the The Vigan Cathedral, together with the different religious organizations and parish ministries, in preparation for the upcoming 3-in-1 activity of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia.

Through our shared efforts, we not only beautify our cathedral grounds but also express our love for God's creation and our readiness to welcome the faithful for this joyful celebration. May this simple act of stewardship remind us that caring for our Church and our common home is a shared mission entrusted to us all.
