MISA DE GALLO and SIMBANG GABI
ON MISA DE GALLO | The Misa de Gallo is celebrated normally during the dawn from 4 to 5 o'clock in the morning. It is this Mass alone that is considered Misa de Gallo. The possibility of having two dawn Masses is left to the discretion of the Team of Pastors or Parish Priest provided that the second Mass is not celebrated when the morning breaks. If the second Mass is celebrated in the morning, the Mass text to be used is the proper of Advent and not the Misa de Gallo; and should follow the norms of the liturgy of the Advent seasonThe Misa de Gallo will take the texts of the Masses of Advent of December 17-24 but since it is an inculturated celebration and the nature of these celebrations point to Christmas, then the vestment to be used is white, the Gloria is sung, Creed is added on Sunday, preface of Advent, and only liturgical Christmas carols may be sung...
ON SIMBANG GABI | The Simbang Gabi is not an anticipation of the Misa de Gallo nor treated as similar celebration to that of the Misa de Gallo because it is not covered by the indult. The Simbang Gabi was only an accommodation for the pastoral needs of the people and when circumstances suggest. Its guidelines are set and directed by the Local Ordinary which is observed using the Mass of the day and not that of the Misa de Gallo.
In our archdiocese, the Simbang Gabi is said in the evening and will take the texts of the Mass of the day, that is, proper prayers, readings, violet vestment, and the Gloria is not sung. There is no anticipation of the Misa de Gallo and it is not by one's initiative or discretion. The observance of Simbang Gabi is not automatic, instead, it is under the mandate of the Local Ordinary.
-----
After careful reflection on the Liturgical Guidelines of our Archdiocese regarding Simbang Gabi - which was only practiced in consideration of the circumstances during the pandemic- we have decided to cancel our Simbang Gabi evening schedule this year. This decision is made to place greater emphasis on the proper celebration of the Dawn Mass (Misa de Gallo).
Please note that the liturgy used for Simbang Gabi is different from that of the Misa de Gallo. Simbang Gabi is also not considered an “anticipated Mass” of the Misa de Gallo.
Therefore, for this year, we will not continue the practice of Simbang Gabi and will instead celebrate only the Misa de Gallo, as it is traditionally observed in our parish.
We sincerely apologize for any confusion our earlier announcement and posting may have caused. We humbly ask for your kind understanding, patience, and continued cooperation in this matter.
Thank you for your constant support and prayers.
Thank you, and may God bless us all.
